2008 GS460 Specifications

Toyota released the 2008 GS460 changes and specs.

unfortunately, it is a bit of a let down seeing how it doesnt use the new direct injection part of the LS460 engine. Instead, it will only produce 342 horses and 336 lb ft torque. it will also have the new 8 speed transmission.

our guesses is that lexus had a hard time fitting the giant engine into such a small car.

no direct injection because everyone complains that lexus engines are too loud from the damn ticking noises that are attributed to the direct injection...just my theory

in the press release, it says engine displacement is 4,293cc..isnt that then the 4.3 liter not the 4.6 liter?

I am not sure how accurate that article is, I checked the pressroom.toyotra.com, and they got nothing there. Also the 4.6L engine is 4608cc not 4293cc like the article mentions, than the article mentions that the engine designation is 1UR-FSE, that is the engine with the direct injection, the engine without the direct injection is 1UR-FE...so i'm not sure if this whole is right, and if it is not, somebody must have done a hella good job.

the way to justify this "weak" engine is that the hybrid models are suppose to be top of the line, flagship for the class.

now, if lexus made the engine 381 horses, then they would have to make the hybrid 400+ which infringes on the LS600hl territory.

i think that this engine with 342 horses is given so that the future GS hybrid will have 380ish.

GS has nothing to do with LS except helping cutting costs by sharing the powertrain.

No, if they want the hybrid to be top of the line, then they would make the GS hybrid have the V8 engine, just like they did with the LS600.

I think they just completely put the GS V8 to rest with this one.

That's not a huge disappointment. But why does the 460 have ventilated seats ONLY? The 300 and 430 both have ventilated seats, so why are they limiting that to one model? That seems kind of stupid.

By the way, the way to tell between the 430 and 300/350 is that the 430 has suspension control. The 430 is the only GS that has the sport/norm button. That's just so you know they're both different models.

That's hilarious. On it's own it look just 'alright because it is kind of sleek looking, but when you put it next to an M-B E-Class or BMW 5 Series, it's blown out of the water. There's no inspiration in the design.

Driving characteristics are uninspiring to match (I drove a GS430 and I expected so much more (for the money and for the overtouted specs) than it gave me. Big disappointment across the board. I think one would be just as satisfied with a Camry.

Then you are all idiots, because they fit a 5.0L in the IS only by raising the hood.

This isn't "such a small car." In fact, it's quite large and would have easily accommodated the LS's engine.

I find it stupid that they only let this car have 340hp. There's once again no reason to buy it over the GS350.

I am a Lexus fan and I agree with you..I was waiting for the GS460 thinking that it will have 380 hp..but with only 342 hp (39 hp more than the GS350) I think i will settle for the GS350.

the car is a non-starter.

it's one of the weakest players in its segment and relatively weak sales are a testament to that. the more expensive E and 5-series far outsell the GS (normally, more expensive cars sell LESS volume not more).

A V6 that makes almost 310 hp, why would anyone buy this GS460?

The non-direct injection engine is also used in LS460s in other parts of the world. Because the fuel is not good enough? Then why does Audi sell all of their FSI engines over the world?

I agree with you (WOW!)

Lexus has had a history of not knowing how to properly differientiate the V6 and V8 GS models.

On the second gen the V8 was awesome, but was unavailable with the steering-wheel-mounted gear selection buttons that the V6 had.

The GS460 really doesn't seem to give anything worthy of its premium over the V6.

I think you are mistaken. The 1998 GS400 (V8) was definitely available with steering wheel mounted shifter buttons, and the GS300 had an inline 6, not a V6.

You are right about the I6 vs. V6, but the steering wheel gear shift was never available with the V8, and it was even dropped from the 6 cylinder model before the end of the model line.

It's incredible how toyota basically butchered Guigiaro's original design of the GS. They should re commission guigiaro to design some of their cars. The maybe they can even start to compete with the likes of audi, etc.
