Activists Give Toyota List of Concerns

A social justice group supporting a unionization drive at Toyota's manufacturing plant in Georgetown delivered a series of recommendations about working conditions to the company's management yesterday.

Representatives of Kentucky Jobs With Justice issued several requests of Toyota that grew out of its Workers' Rights Board hearing in June, during which current and former plant workers discussed concerns, including the treatment of temporary workers and on-the-job injuries.

Among the group of more than a dozen people yesterday were three members of the board's panel, including state Rep. Reginald Meeks, D-Louisville. The group last week had requested a meeting with Toyota plant president Steve St. Angelo, who is out of the country. A security guard offered to give the recommendations to St. Angelo's staff, but the group chose to wait more than 30 minutes until a member of management took the recommendations.

I love the last paragraph:
"It's ... clear to me that a lot of people -- forward-thinking, optimistic, liberal, progressive people -- buy Toyotas. And those are the kind of people who also believe in equity, fairness, rights and justice," said the Rev. Cynthia Cain of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Lexington, who is also a workers' rights board member. "And when those kinds of people find out that the Toyotas they are buying are supporting a company that may not be everything they thought it was, that's where the change will come."

Seems like the UAW is planning to leverage the liberal vote.

Your definition of "a right" is highly flawed. I don't care to go into it at the moment, but I suggest you acquire a deeper understanding of Elightenment philosophy. In particular Locke and Montesquieu- the ideological founders of the United States.

Incidentally, the USSR was a "union" as well. The word "union" here in reference to labor collision is not the same thing.
