Review- 2005 Porsche 997- Is Porsche back?

FINALLY!!!!!!

Porsche is back!

After putting up with a sub-par effort with the 996 since 1999, it is SO refreshing to see Porsche learn from their mistakes, get angry and come back with a vengeance!!!

Too much harm (as in Laagay) had been done to the 996...It was a compromise and a feeble attempt to fool the Porschefiles into accepting the child of a lesser god, for the benefit of Porsches profit margins.

No more will we have to listen to their propaganda cronies tell us why we should like it, even though the 996 look SUCKED, inside AND out!

The weight of frustration was lifted off my shoulders, when I accepted The Auto Galleries invitation to come see the new 997, last Saturday.

Ding, Dong, the witch is dead!

New Coke is out and Coke classic is back!

Talk about love at first site!!!!

The new car looks SOOO good in person, I wanted to leave my A8 there and drive one home.

In fact, the Auto Gallery sold the three 997’s they had, that afternoon.

No compromises on the 997!

Now THIS is a Porsche!

This car will NEVER go out of style!

It will go down in history as a great Porsche collectable.

Inside and out, it is ABSOLUTELY right.

Both in design, technology and performance.

Sit in it and you say…OK, it’s $80G’s but it’s worth it!

It’s special!

I can’t tell you how many people who have told me that after riding in the old 996, that they couldn’t believe how cheap it was and how it was no better than the Boxster.

Obviously, Porsche got the message and we are ALL thankful!

Since our inception, Auto Spies has only given one 5-sheild ranking to a vehicle and that was for the Range Rover.

We’re pleased to announce that now there are two.

The 2005 Porsche 997 and 997S- Auto Spies ranking- Five shields (out of five)

Congratulations, Porsche.

For a job well done.

That's why there is a nine month wait to get one...

Hmmm....maybe there is a hidden message in this design exercise for BMW...We can only hope!

Mr. Panke, I sure hope you're reading this!

I for one am not sure they went anywhere. Your article is the only thing that sucks. The 997 is solely a warmed over 996. I cannot see what all the fuss is about. I own a 996TT and I take great offense to some of your comments, but hey, that's me. 5 stars for the Range Rover? I find that amusing too. If I were you, I wouldn't brag about that rating. Don't get me wrong, the new 997 looks really good, no doubt, but let's not torpedo the 996's for no reason. Have you ever driven a 996TT? GT2? GT3? Guess not. I am looking forward to the 997TT which I have a deposit on at this time. Get real with your reviews, I think the guys gave you too much espresso at the Porsche unvieling or something.

I think some Porsche owners on this thread need to get laid.

Maybe if they weren't driving a 996 they would be ;)

Welcome back, Porsche.

AGREED, THE 996 NEVER HAD THE PIZZAZ AND PRESENCE OF A 911. THE 997 NOW LOOKS LIKE A REAL 911.
GREAT STUFF.

since I don't own a porsche, nor am I a porsche enthusiast (did I even spell it right?), here's my opinion......isn't every redesigned model supposed to be better than it's predecessor? That's the whole point of redesigning a car. 001 is probably right about the 997 being better than the 996. However, I think his description of the 997 is a little over the top, and probably pissed of some 996 owners.

I really wrestled with trading in my reliable low mileage 996 and facing not only the depreciation but the extra expense to get into that S model -- but I am so glad that I did . In fact I decided to go all out on this car . The goodies include :navigation, sports adaptive seats, sport chrono, full leather ,high end sound and yes even ceramic brakes. The brakes sparked a bit of debate in a Porsche forum --but I think they are incredible and noticed the difference immediately. The car overall is AMAZING . It is my speculative opinion that Porsche will do very well with this car.
The five shield rating (out of five)is what I would rate this car as well .
