Audi TT-RS to take on Porsche Cayman S and BMW M3

Audi is putting the finishing touches on its range-topping TT-RS, which is said to sport a 350 horsepower engine that will give the car the ability to rival Porsche Cayman S and the BMW M3.

They should drop the tt-rs and just produce the tt speedster, the car pictured in this article. The tt-s will already be at the competitions level(bmw Z4M), Porsche Boxster. The tt speedster would bring a great addition to Audi, and make the Current TT proud.

350hp masculine looking TT...Sounds nothing short amazing. BTW they say the RS-TT will compete with the M3, but I’m sure we all realize its main competitors are the Cayman S/Boxster S & M-Coupe.

Looks great as a sports car but I'm a sedan guy and I don't trust turbos. I encourage all you sports car types to buy one and make a contribution to Audi's overhead and profit so as to help keep Audi sedan prices competitive.

The way you give the TT a reputation is by making the BASE model a stellar drive. Then, as you up the horsepower, people get interested. That's what Porsche does with the Boxter/Cayman. Audi's base TT is a FWD 200hp vehicle. They think they're going to get respect with an RSTT, but the fact is, it's just icing on a not-very-desirable cake.

Oh, please. The TT is still the poster child of trendy roadsters at the moment. People are still flocking to it for its amazing looks and much better drive- and you must admit, FWD or not, the 2.0T with DSG is a perfect match for this lithe coupe. It renders the 3.2L useless.

Anyway, it's a fantastic base on which to put the TT-RS, a car that will attract men who shy away from the more feminine "normal" TT.

Yes, the Turbo-four is the way to go. I have a 1.8t. However, I can't help thinking the popularity of the TT base model is because of the attractive price. It's well priced for a car in that echelon.

In former time was Audi a simple good carmaker.
Now there is it a "marketing-bit-bull" a lexus!
Is Audi a double from Lexus?
I think it`s a luxury Volkswagen made in europe not in germany. The car isn`t a "Japs ore a Kraut-Car". It´s a hungary spec. car.
I cant`t to catch the point from Audis marketing.

What's wrong with their products? The RS4/RS5 are the M3 sedan/coupe competitors. The TT-S/RS will compete with the BMW M Coupé/Roadster, Porsche Cayman S and Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG. The S6/RS6 double-team the M5. The S8 seems to be in a class of its own, the Jaguar XJR wafting somewhere near it.

What is wrong with these things?

There will be a coupe version, duh. The model shown here is the TT Speedster show car, which has nothing to do with the TT-RS but may or may not get the green light for production.

Anyway, the TT-RS doesn't compete with the M3. That's the RS4/RS5. It competes with the M Z4 models.

Really? Because after the SLK, it pretty much started this segment. And design trends all over the world. Without the TT, companies like Apple, which produce beautifully simple designs, wouldn't be the same.

Until the TT has its engine behind the driver, it will not be a direct competitor to the brilliant Porsche Boxster/Cayman. Yes, the Audi will be better in slippery conditions, a fantastic machine, powerful, fun to drive, and probably with a better interior than the Z4/M-Coupe and Porsche offerings... but if you're talking about sports car handling, NOTHING with 4 wheels that I have driven is as rewarding on a windy road than the Cayman.

All I can think of is Audi is positioning several cars against the M3 because they don't have a SINGLE car that decidedly can really compete with the M3/M3 convertible. Otherwise they would position this against the M-coupe which clearly aligns better than the M3 to this TT.
