Jaguar’s Future: New XK in 2013, X-Type to get killed off

the xf is a good car im sure, but it just seems to risky to buy a car from a company that has an uncertain future. ford has been a help and a hinderance to jaguar, and the other premium brands. if no one buys jaguar, and they just basically float the brand until a buyer comes along, they continue to sink, this article saids another 7 year cycle for the xj, that will murder the brand completely. anda jaguar based off of the land rover lr2 comeon seriously. i dont understand why they dont just use the xj's same chassis and other bits, and just restyle it, the suspension is brilliant, as is the way they drive the problem is that retro styling(which i love the look of the xj, but many people dont)they should redo the x type on rear drive platform, a make it more competitive, i understand the prestige thing but both mercedes and bmw offer low end models, while both being prestigous. Jaguar needs to bring in customers, and sales. the entry g35 turned inifiniti, around customers in this segment seem to be less loyal to one car, which is why it is so competition get Jagaur out there as well

Not necessarily. That will be for the NEW XJ, which will have completely different styling and will stay fresh for a long time. It's the same as the S-Class having a seven-year... that will still look hot in 2013.

Just so you know BMWDRVR this article is factually incorrect. i work for jaguar and have been assured that the XJ redesign devlopment has already been done. The car will be a 2010 model I believe. Its design work has mostly been finished and will be on the same structure as the current XJ. The body and interior will change and thats it. Not a bad thing since the current XJ is the most advanced, stiffest structure in clas..

It really make you wonder if the people who are writing these areticles acutally pay the damnest bit of attention to what they are writing about.

Here is the deal though, until about 1996 you could not purchase a Jaguar for less than around $60,000- at least in recent history. The Jaguar old guard is composed of people who if they had an XJ 12 were used to paying between $4,000 and $8,000 to have a mechanic so much a touch their car.

Jaguar is not like Mercedes or BMW it never has been and it shouldn't try to be. The S-type was an okay move, albeit downward, but the X-type crossed the line.

I admit it and I won't appologize for it- I give X-type drivers dirty looks. I have said that on here before.

I hate the sort of smug look they give me as if you associate themselves with me. I hate it. Some youung kid with a baggy shirt, crooked hat and chains that are SO 4 years ago, giving me the look like he is the same as me, when in reality my suede boots are worth more than everyhting he, and the three other people he managed to cram into that car, are wearing.

or going by jags resale value the poor jaguar that your driving. i never understood why jaguar buyers are so arrogant, they have to be the most illogical car purchases, i like the styling but thats all they offer retro styling. they have awful resale values, poor fit and finish, out dated techonology, poor reliability, and they always have. while jaguar has never really sold more than 2-3 models they have always been bad cars they got better when Ford bought them and they still arent good cars. Jaguar has ran the company just like i assume the buyers think illogically because they have never competed, the stype and x type were away to gain sales but were poorly concieved, what was the point of creating them if they werent going to be competitive .Jaguar should focus less on the illogical buyers it currently has, fixed what has always made them poor choices, and go after the luxury market head on not from the lowly sidelines.....

Arrogant? I don't think I said a single thing that was arrogant. It is the simple truth- and the one overt thing that I based on an automobile.

Just as a note, I could care less about resale, and I could care less about maintenence costs. I am an aesthete- its only money, and I would pay twice what is paid now to keep that which I love.

P.S. There has been no decision made on the X TYPE at this writing. They may do a redesign. The 3 series c class segment is so tempting that they feel that they may want one more chance to get it right. I'm not sure I agree witht that strategy though

There is no point in buying a car with a dreadful life-cycle cost. Some of the British military vehicles like the Ferret are designed to be so expensive to overhaul that you might as well blow them up on the battle field. I recall an aero-engine company that supplied turbine engines for train locomotives at a loss in the full knowledge that costs would be more than recovered at the time of the first overhaul.

Who's thinking about the new XK right now? The current model is still gorgeous.

Ford has done good an bad with Jag. Thanks to Ford Jags quality is higher then ever. Only problem is they never kept up with times. If they get no buyer and keep the brand with Mullaly around they will get a profit with Jag. The XF will bring in sales that Jag only dreamed of Then wait till the new XK. Jag is not supposed to be mass production like Mercedes and BMW but they need money and if Mullaly is right and they do get a profit by 2009 by God they shldnt sell Jag and Land Rover.

They need the money and selling Jag and Land Rover is a quick way to raise money. The problem is that buyers will keep their bids down as acquisitions during a potential global economic decline is risky business. Car sales are already stalling in many areas.

Anyone buying a jag or landrover is an idiot. With the future of these brands being uncertain you might as well go to vegas and gamble. Actually you could buy one in vegas because what goes on there stays secret.

What in the hell are you talking about? Do you acutally bother to think before you write? If for example, Jaguar goes straight down the tubes and disentegrates with the new buyer that pushes existent vehicle values up.

Who cares anyway? Cars are always a loss of money- buy that which you like-be damned to the rest.
