The CLS of Sport Utes? Clearest Pics Yet of BMW’s X6
In 2008 BMW will launch its much discussed all new four door 4x4 Coupe currently dubbed X6. The X6 is said to offer technics and four wheel drive features from BMW’s X5, while its body styling is of the more elegant design of a coupe.

Prototypes of the new model with more or less disguise have been driving around in various places in Germany and the United States for quite some time, but recently the big secret about the rear end styling has finally come to light. These latest photos taken just today in the streets of Munich during a heavy rain shower are showing another prototype of the X6 revealing the sloping roof line and the front end styling.

BMW is expected to use the most powerful engines from the X3 and X5 series for the new X6 such as the Diesel from the X3 which is the new 3.0 litre Twin-Turbo delivering 286 HP, or a fuel engine from the X5, the 4,8 ltre V8 /367 HP. Some time later a V8 Turbo delivering 420 HP will provide the X6 with even more power and faster acceleration, thus another serious rival against Porsche will be on the road from next year on.

I'm generally not a BMW fan. However, the styling on this one gets my attention. It's a fine execution of coupe-like styling on a CUV/SUV.

i agree it does look odd, at best. but ill wait to reserve my final on actually seeing one. but as of now it looks a bit like a turtle

Looks like a 3-series and a X5 hopped into that teleportation machine from the fly movie and this is what came out the other end. I think its ugly but it could sell well, a direct competition to the FX, which I also thought was ugly for a while but now I love it.

Wow not sure what to think of this Bimmer. I know it is to compete with Infiniti's FX... but this is one odd looking BMW. I am afraid this may be somewhat of a Pontiac Aztek for them. It is not that attractive looking and even with the disguise you can make out the overall shape of the thing. I think this may be a mistake, though because it is a BMW, it will prolly sell like hotcakes.

Calling the CLS of CUV's is stretching it quite a bit, but as a modern interpretation of the famed Lancia Delta Integrale...

It seems to work, though I won't be trading my X5 for it any time soon.

Lancia Delta Integrale?

How on EARTH did you come to that conclusion?

Matt,

Like the Lancia D.E. this vehicle is clearly a high-performance, AWD, 5-door... I see it, and its like as an evolution of that car.

Not to mention the silhouette reminds me of the L.D.E. that I owned when I was stationed in Europe.

BTW: I'm not asking YOU to share MY opinion... Cool?

If I hear anybody badmouthing the Pontiac Aztek or the Ssangyong Actyon any more, I'll get really angry... This could easily be the fugliest car of the year.

No you are just a BMW hater who wants attention.

This X6 may be odd, but it isn't badly proportioned like the Aztek or crassly styled like the Actyon.

It's a X5 with a coupe roof-line, I don't know how ugly that combination could possibly be...

...certainly not as ugly as some of you are making out.

Designer1Designer1 - 9/4/2007 2:50:30 PM

it seems that the X6 will join the X3's department of ugliness.

Looks like every luxury carmaker is trying to do something to their SUVs to make them look differnet/unique...etc.(And the ones who didn't had SUVs are coming with All New ones like recentley Audi,Porsche,Acura,Volvo,Peugeot...etc entered the SUV segments)

First Infiniti came with FX which was very unique and attractive at the time it came out(to me it still looks the best)
Then Parent company Nissan came with Qashqai which is also a new SUV type.

and now BMW is trying something different.

Good luck

You know, I decided this looks like a jacked up porsche with an X5/3 series front end.

And will probably get some R class buyers and that be that.

Why did BMW produce this Aztec wannabee?
Is this what the Ultimate Driving Machine has come to?
A sad state of affairs to see one of the great auto mfgs. sink this low.

The back looks horrible. Volvos definitely look btter then piece of crap!!! BMW is gone all wrong AGAIN! They will redesign it early like they did with the 7 series. I see know way it compares with a cls cuz its 4 door coupe not 4 door hatchback!

It's definitely striking, as peyton said. I don't know how else to put it. It could be attractive, but here it just looks slightly cartoonish. Should I wait for it to come out- as a prospective wife's car?

dont torture your poor wife with that monstrosity. it could be considered grounds for divorce in some states. wait for the next FX or even RX.

I don't think its going to look as bad as most of think it will look. It's going to look a lot more refined than the X3 which looks shitty. The FX should look nicer though.

The automotive industries and business come to a crisis to create these kind of "cross over" vehicles to find new customers. Coupe, SUV and Sedan... are putting together. These creatures only for making exclusive models, but who care about customer demands: low cost, simplicity, safety, reliability, good performance... The real brake-through technology are missing from most of manufacturers. The current vehicles are same with the cars in '90-s. New style is not enough. Ask the customers...
