Official Audi RS6 details: 580HP and 650Nm of torque

Audi has finally released official details on its most powerful production car, the RS6. Fitted with a twin-turbo V10 engine that churns out 580hp and 650Nm of torque, it’s got more than enough grunt to keep up with all but the fastest of supercars. The RS6 also comes with their permanent quattro four-wheel drive and sports suspension with dynamic ride control. Despite its performance overtones, Audi claims the car is also very comfortable on long journeys.

The ten-cylinder V-configuration engine in the RS 6 is based on the V10 powerplants of the Audi S6 and Audi S8 and gets dry sump lubrication to retain power delivery even with constant sideways acceleration of 1.2g. Thanks to the twin-turbos, power delivery is also very even. Peak torque of 650Nm is available across the entire range from 1,500 to 6,250rpm while maximum output is available between 6,250 and 6,700 rpm.

All that power and all-wheel drive and it only does 0-62 in 4.6?!?...for $136,000* (*figure obtained from Edmunds.com)?!? That's a hard sell for me! Car made me fall in love with station wagons though!!

Not fast enough for you?
You KNOW that this is on the conservative side.
Expect closer to 4.0 secs 0-60 in real life.

I don't think it'll be $136k. The E63 is around 85 and the M5 is 83. I'd expect something around $85 for this car, otherwise they won't sell at all.

I wish they'd put some sort of DSG in this car...might actually get a sub 4s figure if they do.

I know estates are big over in Europe, but ugh I hate how they look.

come on we are not that dumb

1. price has nothing to do with the speed of the car.
2. the euro price has nothing to do with the US price
3. expect the car to be 10 20% more then the MB and M5.
4. expect BMW to come out with a release talking about how the new M5 will come out with 581 hp and will be much better and have xdrive(because they don't car what Audi does)

I agree w/budfrogS4 if they price it that high it wont sell. Typically when the first RS 6 came out it was more expensive than eiher the E63 and M5. With the Benz starting at $85,775 and the Bimmer at $86,675 (including gas-guzzler tax) I'm guessing a more reasonable cost for the RS 6 would be somewhere around $90k.

i don't think the car will be that cheep. They will probably have a higher starting price (with few options)

A 85k m5 probably has hubcaps and cloth seats :)

remember this post $110k is my prediction and look for this engine to be in the R10 :)

audi, bme ,merc, etc. are always modest with their acceleration times. expect low 4s to 100kmh and low 14s to 200kmh

the lowest ive seen the m5 is 4.3 and i dont know about the E63... but i can also guarantee that the RS6 will be faster in acceleration and flexibility.

It will sell in low numbers even at $138K. There are already lists at the top Audi dealers for this model. I would be surprised if they shipped more than 500 to the US however. I guess it depends on what dealers tell Audi USA about interest levels. The last RS6 sold for about $87K US and they brought over about 1279 of them which was too many. This new RS6 brings performance to a whole new level that doesn't exist anywhere else in this segment. It will be much faster than an E63 AMG or the current M5. It's producing 650Nm of torque at 1500 rpm all the way to 6500. Holy crap, that's Viper territory. It's already well known that the hp is really 610 instead of the 571,575, or 580 that has been published. That makes passing power at any speed seem like a time warp.

The power stays constant from 6250 to 6700 pm! So that means there is MORE power still in that engine! Plateaus = powercut. Look at the torque figures too, amazingly flat.

Compare it to the 65 AMG engine with a 1000Nm of torque LIMITED! Real torque is somewhere in the region of 1300Nm.

Bottom-line: there is definitely room for an RS6 Plus with 600 hp +

I also want to see Nurburgring numbers for this car. Let's see how it stacks up against the M5 there. These peak hp numbers aren't very interesting until you put it to a real test.

Not really. Expect $100K. And when the former fastest sedan in the world is $80K more (S65 AMG), you can call it a bargain. It's the cheapest 550hp+ available right now.

100k is too much. And it won't be 100k when you get done with options.

This segment is all well below 6 figures, around 15-30% less than 100k.

And this is why it wont sell in the US.

The "Daddy" in this segment is the M5, which is 82k.
