More info of Ferrari's MilliChili Concept car

Ferrari surprised many of us back in June when it pulled the covers off its new eco-friendly FXX Mille-Chili concept car. Here was a concept that was shaped like the Enzo supercar but constructed from plastic and cardboard, and represented the carmaker’s future strategy for improving its image in the eyes of environmentalists. Just as puzzling as the concept, officials at the concept’s unveiling talked of new biofuel capable models and even hybrid-electric technology making its way into future Ferraris.

Ferrari will be introducing a raft of new fuel-saving technologies in the future, including making its cars lighter, smaller and more aerodynamic. Energy efficiency will play a much larger role in the design of future Ferraris as this concept has shown.

Don’t sweat. We’re not about to see Ferrari ditch its V12 engines in favor of econo four-bangers.

I can't really see why companies like Ferrari and Lamborghini would need to be concerned with alternative fuel powerplants. I believe that so few are sold and most are not driven that often to really make a difference to the environment. You can argue that every little bit helps but in the case of global warming that "little bit" is not going to do much compared to the larger contributors of pollution. In other words mixing a gallon of seawater to an ounce of fresh water will eventually dilute the seawater...but how long will it take...and will you ever get completely fresh water?

If ferrari starts making its bodies out of plastic and not carbon fiber and quality metals. Its a dead end on looks. That mille Chilli looks way too cheap and fake. Price drop ?

First of all, I agree with all of you. It's really not a bad idea for Ferrari to be looking into these types of things though. It is best for the future health of the company. This is the case only because of things like the CAFE standards that Congress wants to impose and the standards of many other countries in the world. From what I've heard if the standards aren't met then the vehicles can not be sold. It's definitely not an ideal situation for the enthusiast in all of us nor the companies that these standards are being imposed on, but for the companies to sell cars and survive they must do what they can to reduce their "Carbon Footprint".

The first part of the name is pronounced like 'key' rather than 'chu' on how you would say chili peppers. "key-li"
