2008 Lexus GS - New 342Hp GS 460

2008 Lexus GS - New 342Hp GS 460
Lexus is enhancing the GS for the 2008 M.Y. line-up by applying minor aesthetic revisions on all versions and replacing the GS 430 with the GS 460 which boasts a 342 Hp 4.6-liter V8 combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission that takes it from 0 to 60 mph 5.4 seconds. All 2008 GS models are distinguished by a revised fascia with a new front bumper and lower intake design and a new chrome grille surround up front, plus side-view-mirror turn signals and new alloys. In the interior apart from the updated trim the instrument panel has been revised.

Furthermore the GS 450h carries on a few more visual differences from other GS models including the… rice-racer styled blue hybrid designation on the side rocker moldings and aluminum-and-blue enameled rear model designation, blue front and rear "L" logos and a blue tint to the headlamps and tail lamps. That’s almost -not quite, but almost- as bad as the gold chrome option… Good news is that Lexus has added a VDIM cutoff switch to allow the driver to disengage the stability system when appropriate.

Slight changes, but continues to be a very nice tourer.

It's so beautiful I could almost cry. Amazing how this elegant design puts some classic cars to shame, especially those design by supposed "legendary Italian and German designers". The guys at Lexus know how to style a car and make it look good.

Put this next to an Aston Martin Lagonda and it makes the Aston look like a cheap Chinese car. It's no surprise that smart people are beginning to compare the Lexus LS600h to Bentley's and Rolls Royces because if you put the LS600h next to a Rolls Royce, even one from the 1960s, the Lexus still displays the most class.

I love this brand!

Man, you are hilarious!

Keep it up!

I know you may not like the GS, but it is a nice looking car.

Anyways, I like your posts for the comedic value since not everything should be taken seriously here.

david989, when you put the LS600 next to a Camry hybrid you think the Camry got a big brother.

You cannot compare the Lexus to a Mercedes or a Rolls-Royce.

Why am I hilarious? I post facts. The Lexus GS has won thousands of design awards and comparisons against the outclassed competition.

The new Lexus GS460 Gas Guzzler for stupid people. Buy only US or german cars and you save money and gas. You save the world and a free live in the world. In Japan there is Toyota with the Lexus badge the no way to freedom.

The next time your Lexus breaks down, talk to me. Being a German car fan, I have the mechanic on speed dial.

Yes, I think the rear needed a bit of work, not the front. I'm just glad they gave it better wheels- last year's model's standard rims were just unflattering.

Thats the same engine our Lexus LS460 comes with (U.A.E). Abit underpowered imo, all the competitors have 350+ except the infinite I think.

Nothing with more than 300hp should be considered "underpowered." If this is underpowered, so is your X5, but we both know it's not.

Anyway, I guess compared to the E550 it's out-classed. And I certainly wouldn't buy it. But the power is more than adequate in a car this size.

M53RM53R - 9/9/2007 8:20:26 AM

Underpowered compared to the competition? The 550i has 367hp, E550 has 388hp, A6 4.2 has 350hp... Not sure about the M45 but I think its also more than 340hp... It should have just inherited the same engine from the LS460 and everyone would have been happy. Not saying its a bad car, but the competition has more hp.

S4cabriofoxoneS4cabriofoxone - 9/9/2007 11:54:21 AM

The M45 has 335hp. But nobody cares- it drives so well that we overlook that "lack" of power.

As I said, saying a car with 340hp is underpowered is laughable. Hello, MY car has 340hp, and it's certainly not underpowered! If anything, the 382hp E550 is OVERPOWERED. Although I would buy it over a GS460 in a heartbeat (I'm not defending the Lexus), what you said is just quite strange. OMG it has 10hp less than the A6 it's underpowered!!!

Designer1Designer1 - 9/7/2007 1:02:38 PM

This is a shame, why did they reduce the power on the GS460? I was expecting it to have more power than the LS just it has been in the previous generations.

The GS is still a beautiful car, much better looking from all of its competitors, but it definitely needs the power of 380+ hps. I think its a stupid decision for what they've done. Now you have the GS450h and GS40 making the same power and probably same gas mileages, but one more expensive than the other.

This equation just doesn't add up, better change things around Lexus.

"The GS is still a beautiful car, much better looking from all of its competitors..."

This is where you lose us. Don't pass your opinions off as factual information. I feel that the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sport is the best-looking car in this class.

To be honest, I prefer last year's front end in the GS. Now it looks like they just melted it a bit and called it the new car.

I cant help but laugh when i hear statements like that . HP pushed by teh germans has become a joke. Whats the point of having a high powered car when in reality you have a 100 electronic nanies that will prevent you from ever exercising that power, other then in a straight line ?

Ask the Japanese car makers...they are known for excessively using this systems. The German cars are known only for offering a fantastic driving experience and unmatched solidity and endurance.

342hp is last years news. Lexus could have pumped out more, since this would be the hot rod version of the GS' MPG SHOULD be the last thing in mind. This is a good looker, but its taking on power that alot of companies already achieved. Luxury is up there, performance? So-so.

No matter how fast it is, the GS460's handling won't match up to the competition unless they thoroughly rework the suspension and steering.

Actually they would probably have to rework the chassis as well. Too much deflection in the chassis makes for unpredictable handling. toyota is not known for making rigid chassis.

Lexus ALWAYS understates their 0 - 60 times by at least .5 seconds. Here are the results of the 5 Top Luxury Cars in this test which was reported in the January Issue of Car and Driver. Please note these tests were all done on the same day at about the same time and at the same altitude. The results reflect the average of 3 runs and all cars are the 2007 vintage.

Mercedes S550 5.6, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.1 (Benz show 5.4 in their specs)
BMW 750iL 5.7, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.2
Jag XJ Super 6.0 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.5
Lexus LS460L 6.2 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.6
Audi A8 6.8 0 - 60 quarter mile 15.2

Note that Lexus, as usual, is more than the 5.4 the manufacturer CLAIMS to get by .8 seconds.

Also note the LS430 (prior model the LS460 replaced) was rated at 295 HP and was actually 278 when Lexus corrected their rating. And there were no refunds or apologies from the so-called "quality" car company. ABC - Always Be Careful what you buy from the (REPREHENSIBLE) Toyota/Lexus people.....
