BMW outsells Audi and outgrows Mercedes
BMW Group outsold Audi and Mercedes in the month of July due to increased demand for the BMW and MINI brands. Now for the month of August, BMW has outsold rival Audi and has outgrown Mercedes, making it the world’s largest premium carmaker.

Volkswagen’s Audi sold 66,400 vehicles in August, a growth of 4.2 percent. The BMW brand sold a total of 85,003 units in August for a total growth of 11.1 percent. Mercedes-Benz reported sales of 89,100 units in August thanks to the brand new 2008 C-Class, for an increase of 9.1 percent.

But taking into account BMW’s MINI brand...

I agree and I've never heard of Audi including Seat in their numbers. I think Seat sells far more cars than Audi in addition to them being at a much lower price point.

Yeah Audi does, I am a big fan of Audi & BMW by the way. Seat makes some pretty nifty little cars, but their sales have been a disappointment, they sell far less cars than Audi.

Can you please direct me to some info that clearly states that Audi includes Seat in their monthly and/or YTD reporting? I actually researched and visited SEAT's website and no where did they mention Audi. In fact, I saw VW. Otherwise to my understanding Lamborghini to my understanding is under the Audi group, not SEAT, and Lamborghini reports separately as well.

I wish I could say it is easy to find, it's in their annual report. Here's the address;http://www.volkswagenag.com/vwag/vwcorp/info_center/en/publications/2007/03/Geschaeftsbericht_2006.-bin.acq/qual-BinaryStorageItem.Single.File/Annual_Report_2006_e.pdf

This was good, I did check it out. On or about page 49/50, it lists the Audi Group. Each company under the Audi Group is listed separately. I've never seen Audi report numbers under the Audi Group, strickly Audi only. But you got me thinking, I'm going to research this some more. Thanks!

NOW don't even bring up Lexus or say Audi is more prestigious than BMW. Perhaps BMW is now as pretigious as Merc or little less.

GO BMW!

Since when does high sales volume equal prestige? I would say that prestigious brands, cars or otherwise, bring with them some level of exclusivity. In the case of BMWs, it seems like everybody wants one and everybody has one.

‘carfun’ is on the money on this. Prestige brings exclusivity. Mercedes-Benz being the oldest and most sought after brand in the industry surely has earned their place. Though BMW is coveted by many, it doesn’t have that MB flare. …and folks I am talking brand here not specific models so I don’t want any grief.

BMW and Mercedes always outsell Audi in fact Audi does not have anything in common with bmw or benz . Only audi owners think independent companies. Audi is just a front for VW. Much like lincoln with ford Audi owners like to think they are competition for Mercedes and BM

Not only did BMW outsell Audi in number of cars, the profit per car is over double that of Audi, on average. (BMW is about $3200 per car, Audi is about $1500).

It's interesting to note that if Audi sold the same number of cars as MB or BMW did in the U.S., it would be the worldwide sales leader. In 2006, according to the link someone provided, Audi's total cars sold, which includes Seat and Lambo are almost matching BMW's with Mini, Roller, and the motorcycle division.

amazinBimmer you obviously forgot to read Audi's statement that they are going to raise prices to equal that of BMW wthin the next 5 years.

There goes your pricing arguement.

Secondly, Audi is forecasting 1.5 million units (cars) sold worldwide in 2015. With an average of 9.8% growth rate year to year.

You can't say that about Mercedes-Benz global sales in 2015 or their growth rate because both numbers will be lower.......

Yeah, and Audi competes with Infiniti, Lexus and Volkswagen when they will reach pricing parity with BMW within the next 4 years now and will outsell Mercedes-Benz easily within the next 3 years and by 2015 Mercedes will be in the rearview mirror for Audi when we look at worldwide sales.

They spew off "facts" that are so far from the truth, this is true.

IMHO a lot of owners are merely seduced by the hype surrounding each marque and have very little factual information on either their choice or those of others.

So they fail miserably when trying to justify their choice by reasons. All it takes is just a small debate to blow them out of the water. The possess a myopic view of the automotive world.

I personally have owned Audi, BMW, and Lexus. They all have their excelling points and their downfalls.
My final choice is Audi because it not only meets my needs but excels in other areas. But I also respect the fact it is not for everybody.

Lexus already outsells Audi globally you fool. Lexus is edging out those rebadged VW's and soon will destroy BMW and Benz. The success of Lexus in the US proves this. Sooner or later the world will wake up and see what is hip (Lexus) and will go for it. Starving kids in Africa or Asia will see that Americans are driving Lexus and they will consider this the new fashion. Not BMW or Benz and certainly not VW's with four rings.
