BenzW124, only a fool would overpay for a sports car because of perceived prestige. One should judge a sports car purely on performance and the value it delivers fro your dollar. What irks me is that sports cars are generally priced higher just because they are sports cars.

Not counting Honda’s S2000, Nissan’s 350Z, Infiniti’s G35 now G37, Mazda’s RX-8?? Not great enough?

Airliner..if you think G35 is a sports car you need to stop talking about cars. G35 is a bloated, overweight, bad handling, cheaply made Japanese garbage. Sport cars are what Porsche makes, not Nissan.

The original 240Z was a great value but it not take too many years for its front struts to push up right through its rusted out front fenders. I had a Datsun 610 station wagon and the factory gave me two free front fenders only a year after I bought it because the originals had already rusted out.

Japanese cars had much better rust resistance later on but then they started up with their old tricks again inquiring from steel suppliers if they could cut electrogalvanization back from 75 to 45 grams per square metre just to save a few pennies at the expense of the consumer. Between that story and some other stories involving deliberately weak valve springs that caused a loss of engine power after a few years so that the consumer would be motivated to trade his vehicle, I developed a certain lack of trust with respect to rice burners. BTW, an american automotive consultant was going around at the time trying to convince the big 3 domestics to adopt the same obsolescence strategy as the Japanese with respect to weak valve springs. It would be real neat if a retired auto industry insider could spill the beans and shed some more light on the above allegations.

Same could be said for German sports cars. Only Tin cans with cow skin plastered all over. And they satisfy the appetite for speed in RICH teenagers. Whats your point Star? A japanese automaker cant make real sports cars? Only a selected few from Germany can?

Well if they are just tin cans to you, they'll certainly give their rivals a run for their money.

All future cars. Of course NSX already tasted the defeat when trying to compete with Porsche but I guess Nissan and Lexus want to share the same fate. When it comes to real sports car Europe is the only place where you can find them(where they are built). That's the reality.

NSX kickt porsche's ass when it came out in 1989, ferrari's would still be crap if there was no NSX.

And the NSX-R was faster than a F360 modenna, this just proves how little you know about cars when you dare call the NSX a failure.

And the skyline GTR R32 was the fastest car on the Germans home turf the nurbergring and so wore the R33 an R34.

The NSX had an inherently unbalanced 90-degree V6. Honda originally planned to use the same capital equipment to produce a V-8 NSX engine in the correct 90-degree configuration for V-8 engines. This is one area where BMW excels as they produce an in-line 6 cylinder engine which is inherently balanced.
