Audi to launch Q7 hybrid and diesel this year

Audi of America is planning on launching its first diesel and hybrid models this year on the Audi Q7 SUV. While Audi has not said which other vehicles will get the parallel hybrid system, which can run in gasoline, an electric motor or both at the same time, several other Audi hybrids are expected.

Audi is already the best value among German luxury vehicles. I'm waiting for the Q5 as my wife wants a smaller SUV than the fabulous Q7. I looked at the Q7 in the dealer's showroom yesterday while waiting for scheduled maintenance to be completed on my leased A6 Quattro. That Q7 had the narrow-angle V-6 as opposed to the inherently out-of-balance 90-degree V-6 in the A6. VW's narrow-angle V-6 is as close as you can get to an in-line 6.

The A6 has the worst flimsy difficult-to-use and hard-to-read plastic oil dip stick on the planet. The Q7 dipstick is a proper flat metal foil type but is not stifff enough for easy one-hand operation.

I'm hoping that the Q5 will have the real Quattro with a Torsen differential and not some cheaper AWD system that does not merit the Quattro name.

BenzW124, the Touareg is much shorter than the Q7 and does not have the same type of front seat adjustment mechanism. Because of its size, the Porsche Cayenne has more of a resemblance to the Touareg than the Q7. What I hate about the Cayenne is the way they nickle and dime you to death by charging big extra bucks for things like automatic transmission on the V-6 version. The V-8 Cayenne is grossly overpriced. Mercedes continues to use blackmail marketing techniques by charging extra for most paint colors on the C-Class and by combining desirable options together with frivolous crap as a pricey option on certain other models.
