2008 Nissan GT-R to feature V38VETT developed with Cosworth

As we revealed in a previous article the famed RB26DETT will be superceded by the new V38DETT, a recreation of the Le Mans VRH35L 3.5-litre twin turbo V8, in V6 guise. Importantly the VRH35L will utilise the same technology for the cylinder heads and engine block as the Le Mans engine.

Interestingly, Nissan have developed the new engine in conjunction with Cosworth in the UK. Cosworth’s expertise was employed in the development of the V6’s aluminium monoblock design - the engine does not use piston sleeves, so the pistons make direct contact with the block. Cosworth also assisted with the design of reduced weight pistons, conrods and crankshaft.

When this cars makes landfall in the states Nissan/Infiniti/Whatever is going to leave quite a gaping wide price margin from its existing lineup. Hopefully they will release a NA version that is attainable by their current customer base of 350Z and G owners who are looking for an affordable awd coupe [that is not a FM Z]. A "nothing but motor" 3.8L would put down sufficient power for most drivers. It's great to have a flagship car only if the technology trickles down the lineup. But regarding the JDM price of ~75K USD, as the artcle states, they were originally designed for the race circuit and now will be designed for the streets. I hope that would mean dipping below the 55K USD target price. How about 40-45K.

40-45K will be great. I will get one in that price range over the Porsche Cayman and Boxster.
