FRANKFURT AUTO SHOW: 2008 Mazda6 revealed

Mazda has officially unveiled the new Mazda6 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The all new Mazda6 comes in three different body variants including a sedan, wagon and a hatchback. Totally redesigned the new Mazda6 looks a lot more aggressive and measures 65mm longer, 15mm wider, 5mm taller with a 50mm longer wheelbase.

A new 2.5 liter gasoline engine has been developed replacing the previous 2.3 liter unit. The MZR 2.5 produces 167 horsepower. Also available are the existing 1.8 and 2.0 liter gasoline engines and the MZR-CD 2.0 turbo diesel for you Euro folks.

Mazda6 looks great but it is underpowered. A $15K VW Rabbit has more horsepower(170 hp). A little disappointing.

The old V6 had only 212 HP and it was a modified version of the Ford Taurus 3.0 V6 engine.

Star, I'm not surprised since Ford owns part of Mazda and the Ford 500 was also underpowered at launch. This pissed customers off so bad that Ford renamed the 500 the Taurus. Personally, I think the Taurus name should be tossed in the garbage as the Taurus was a piece of crap even if it did sell well.

the car is very appealing...definitely a stab into the camry/accord sales. i always loved mazda's, their handling is considered the poor-mans bmw and the styling is just unique and subtle. nothing extravagant, just eye catching. glad they've pulle themselves out the hole they were.

now if they could only bring back the beloved rx7/8 with a single/twin turbo setup. it would mean real business!

IMHO this is the best looking sedan introduced in the last couple of years in any price category. Why couldn't Honda come out with an appealing Accord? It can't come close to the Mazda6. Design is so important today it's so surprising that many autos don't hire or utilize good design talent.
Mazda is pulling away from the crowd.

Great car, but with only 167hp out of a 2.5l, I definitely was expecting more at least the 180hp range. Hopefully some drastic weight savings has taken place and that's how they'll get decent numbers out of the vehicle. Regardless it's beautiful and The designers have done their job (making an owner of the previous generation really want the new generation).

BTW does anyone have a good idea about the V6 specs? The rumors have shown a 3.5l possibly around the 270hp range??!!

One last thing sorry... From the looks of it they have left some wiggle room for the after market. I've been in the after market car audio industry for years and the previous models interior killed the idea of getting a radio in there for quite some time without major modification. Then the Turbo 2 from Metra came out and it wasn't a very nice kit and it was very expensive. This looks like they'll have an easier time making something for the vehicle at a much lower cost seeing how the HVAC controls are on a separate piece of plastic below the radio...
