FRANKFURT AUTO SHOW: Volkswagen Tiguan world premiere

Volkswagen is showing the new Tiguan in its world premiere at the 62nd Frankfurt Motor Show. Being called the “small brother” of the Touareg, the Tiguan will compete with the likes of the Honda CR-V.

The Volkswagen Tiguan comes in three equipment versions including Trend&Fun, Sport&Style and Track&Field. The Trend&Fun and Sport&Style versions were specifically designed for primarily on-road use. The Track&Field version was designed for rocky off-road use.

Overall there are three TSI and two TDI engines. The three TSI engines come in direct injection engines with turbocharging or turbocharging plus supercharging. Power outputs include 147hp, 167hp and 197 hp. The two TDIs output 138hp and 167hp. Sales are expected to begin early next year.

I clicked into this thread with that previous concept in mind and I share your sentiment. Its un-offensive but incredibly bland looking in my opinion.

Go ahead and cry all you want BimmerFan . I'm happy, not sad, because it will be available with the twincharger engine (turbo plus supercharger) engine which BMW does not have. It also looks better than the X3.

I don’t mind the interior… But why is there no ‘Climatronic’ and why is VW deleting this option from US bound Jettas, Golfs and GTIs?

Climatronic sounds like an automatic airconditioner which I woul pay not to have. It's much better to get a manual airconditioner and simply adjust the setting to exactly where you want it. All automatic airconditioners eventually fail because the "doors" that regulate the cold air/hot air mix eventually stop operating properly and cost an arm and a leg to repair.

Whoever was expecting this car to look exactly like the concept, just shouldn't have in the first place. But look at it: the main design is almost exactly intact. It has the same body, lights, grille. The differences? Lower ride height, what appears to be a slightly lower roof line and different wheels/trim.

To me, it just looks far more expensive than its competitors. It will probably start at around $23K with the 2.0T engine, which is a few thousand more than the CR-V, but definitely worth it for the performance and style.

Advantage Tiguan because the CRV has a weird AWD system which involves the two axles constantly and deliberatly turning at slightly different speeds. I don't trust that design as the internal clutches that accomodate this speed difference are constantly slipping and wearing out in the process.
