Jaguar XJ officially named “Most Beautiful Luxury Saloon”

This doesn't surprise me a bit, because I've always loved this latest design. That's why is so hard to believe that sales are not what they could be. The reasoning I've heard is that the basic design hasn't hasn't changed in thirty years or so.

I agree that the Jag is the most beauiful in that price class but the Mercedes S-class has the best front seats while Jag rear legroom could be vastly improved. The Jag and Audi both offer all-aluminum bodies which Mercedes does not. Audi has the superior AWD system with a Torsen center differential.

I think it still looks amazing, bodykit or not (but mostly not).

It looks fabulous - but the old one looked MUCH better in my opinion.

And that horrid bodykit doesn't do it any justice.

But it's still miles more Jag than that new XF.

I don't know... I prefer the '07 model, which is just before the bodykit, to the last-gen. It was free of clutter on the sides (they took away the side strips- GASP!), it was supremely elegant and looked confident and composed, like a Jag should. I saw a pristine black example the other day, and that car is just gorgeous. It and the XK do justice to the ad campaign. However, the XF is slightly disappointing. I was liking it at first, but the wheel choices are all wrong, the interior is a bit derivative and the exterior just doesn't blow me away. Especially after seeing the new BMW X6- wow!

I was going to put a deposit down on the X6 for my wife soon, but we realized that it's coming out too late. I may just get it myself, with the twin-turbo V8, of course.

it looked great in the 70's and 80's but now the design is too conservative I can't the difference between a 2007 XJ or a 1996 XJ, good car under the grandpa design.

Always a stunning car. Just needs a little tweaking.

I disagree. It doesn't look Jaguar enough; I hope Callum makes it more distinctive next time. There's too much Aston Martin, Lexus, BMW, even Volvo. The XJ is Jaguar design at its finest, although Callum ruined it, too, with the unelegant bodykit.

Point is the XJ will be a collectors item in about 20 yrs as a classic car.However a new "classic car" does not sell in large #'s. A new car needs to look modern to sell. Thats why the XF was the right move for Jaguar. Buying a new car in large numbers means "modern is better".

I have to agree with Sevorbeupstry in that the previous one looked much better. I really don't like the grotesque body kit- something which was cememted when I saw it in person.

I agree! But when Sevor referred to the previous model, I believe he meant the previous, steel platform. I would take a 2007 model over any other recent XJ.

I did realized that as I was writing the message, and I agree with it in so much as the stance of the previous generation XJ is better.

Thats not what my buyers are saying they like the changes. Also it starting to attract a younger demographic

S Class is stunning from every angle. This car...is not

The S-Class is amazing, but that doesn't stop it from looking ungainly from the rear-quarter view.

Always liked the Jaguars. I don't know if it would be a design of the year over an S CLass but I do think its a sexy design.

Congrats to Jaguar!! Have to agree with people on the bodykit though, looks better without it IMHO.

Not usually a Jaguar fan as i feel they look dated. However, when coming home from my local city centre i went through Castle Vale (where they have a Jaguar plant) and i saw a trailer with about 8 models on, also including the new XK which looked amazing, all coming straight from having just been made, and well, with he bodykit on the XJ, it looked very impressive.

People have no taste. There are so many beautiful cars out there like the Lexus LS or GS and the IS-F but instead the win goes to some German car that's unreliable and charges a fortune and for what? No hybrid technology, no self-parking, outdated transmissions and engines. Rip off.

Two words:

Maserati Quattroporte.

I love the XJ, but it's half the price of the Maserati, and the Q definitely justifies it. That is the most beautiful luxury saloon by quite a margin. I guess it wasn't included in this, more thought of as an "exotic?"

I think the Maserati exhibits something that I think happens often with Pininfarina designs (didn't they design it- even if not they share this trait) in that they lack something that gives them a classical look and they have a tendency to look dated before their time. The front of the Quattroporte is beautiful, but the rear section and the relationship between the rear window and the body (i.e. they proportions) looks oddly dated to me. Not that I won't complain about every car on earth for some reason or another, but I think the Maserati lacks enough classicism for its side design to be pulled off effectively, and in addition I think there is some dependency on color in the matter.

A grey Quattroporte looks horrible- it looks very old and not in the classic sense. Black however is an excellent color on the Quattroporte.
