Hyundai Genesis - first interior pictures

Hyundai is certainly on the right track, with one solid effort after another...

I find most of this interior very well done/elegant, and at the 'proposed' price point, it simply can't lose.

BTW - Why must we ASSume that they won't be using actual wood trim pieces, especially since they don't appear to be 'half-stepping' in any other areas with this vehicle... So far?

Looks pretty good. See the iDrive/MMI/COMMAND style controller. I'll bet you two bits that it works better than either of the 3 previously mentioned devices.

Don't think so. iDrive is actually a pretty brilliant system once you get to know it, MMI is even better and Mercedes-Benz' new COMAND is simply out of this world.

I meant the concept of iDrive is brilliant. And really it's not that hard to use it. It's fairly easy for our generation.

i think the idrive is actually quite brilliant as well. i took me just 10 minutes to figure it out for good. maybe im just smarter than the rest of you...

Exactly what I was thinking. To me it's a little bit of S550 with M35/45 and some 2008 Accord.

It looks bad and cheap. It's basically a mix of (mostly) already bad interiors. I see Infiniti, I see Lexus and a bit Cadillac here and there. The overall fit and finish is pretty good, but then again it's not hard to fit plastic isn't it? Also they have copied design elements from all the competitors.

This thing is bland, weak and has no heart.

Out of curiosity, how else would you propose a start/stop button look? Maybe they should make it square or star-shaped?

Not bad they would be very wise to start the Genesis brand with this car rather than badge it a Hyundai. This could be the way to enter the market similar to Lexus.

but thats the thing no one honestly expects this car to be as nice as the s class, or 7 series crowd. and in reality its not suppose to be, its called shoot for the starts. for the price its not bad, it doesnt look any worse than anything else in that price range, and i honestly dont see any difference in this car, and something from lexus.

An OK effort, but it just looks like a template of every other luxury car interior out there. Too many Japanese cues. Controller is too similar to MMI (similar buttons around it). The wood looks pretty fake, if it's even real. The plastic looks... plasticky.

I didn't. The wood maybe fake or real, it looks very cheap and low-quality. In a car there is wood and there is WOOD. The Asians have the tendency to place a thin layer of wood between softplastic and a glossy toplayer (and then call it real wood, which it is technically but it will always look and feel cheap) whereas the germans, british, italians, french, ..etc all use massive wood trim pieces (ok, NOT ALL but most premium brands do) polished by hand. (i do not know about audi or bmw but at mercedes they still do it by hand)

A nice step for Hyundai, but it copies the Q45's interior, which isn't a good idea as the Q failed. So why copy a failure?

Are you kidding me? This is so cheap. It looks like a BMW or Audi interior. Cheap materials, boring design and simply cheap.

You want class leading interior design you go to Lexus. It's been stated numerous times that Lexus has the best interiors in the business and the best interior materials and the best cockpit construction.

This car will flop or it will sell at the levels those German cars sell at. Lexus has nothing to worry about. Lexus has already left behind the Germans and is now taking on Bentley and Rolls Royce.

please don't compare cheap toyota with european brands. toyota is similar to hyundai and far from any german car brands. if you think jap brand is good, go to japan and see the people who drives toyota and who drives the bimmers. you wont see the rich folks driving japanese cars. if you go to europe, you will see rich people driving euros not japs.

^I'm sorry, but the only tastefully executed interior of any German sedan is that of the highest trim VW Phaeton.

David, you're a bonehead. I'm a Japanese car fan and not the greatest fan of some of the BMW interiors, but Audi, bar none, consistently makes the absolute most gorgeous interior of any car maker. Even though I think VW's are electronic disasters, even their interiors are now beautiful. Stop talking out your @ss and check out the interior of the Phaeton before you comment again.

That said, I think this is a noble attempt, but it's too much of that ultra-shiny fake-ish looking wood going on here. They either need to matte it down a bit or go with aluminum/carbon. Truthfully, I'm not a huge fan of wood unless it's extremely well done, and often times it's not.

Oh wait. David, I apologize. I just remembered the joke. The sad thing is that there are Lexus fans out there who really believe that crap. I'm going to have to up your boost just for making me giggle.

Looks like a mix of alot of other interiors out there at the moment. I think the exterior looks quite good but this interior just looks generic.

Is that a new Hyundai emblem on the steering wheel? Speaking of steering wheel, the wooden-trim outer rim takes away from the central hub of the steering wheel.

Exactly. I thought no one else was going to make this comment. Eliminating the wood from the exterior and just making it an entirly leather wrapped steering wheel would make it look much better and change the interior entirly.

Along with that, the red inlayed badge better just be a holding spot for the Hyundai 'H' in chrome or stitched leather.

Finally get rid of the two different color greys on the whell just pick the darker color and stick with it. (basically make a MB steering wheel).

Though I do think the buttons on the wheel can stay.

Also big easy to read and use buttons = good thing.

And remember, this is a first-shot by Hyundai. They are aware of their target market and aren't trying to get too carried away this go round.

Hyundai is simply trying to make a nice V8 powered luxury sedan. So far, it looks like they are doing well.

I recently chose to cancel my order on a Rolls Royce Phantom and Bentley Azure. I sat in an LS460 and realized mirror matched wood and premium coach work were no match for the interior in an LS460. I also ran my new S600 into a tree so I can replace that with the much more powerful LS600h.

I find it funny that some of you are comparing this interior to luxury autos that cost a hell of a lot more than what the Genesis will cost. I think its competition will be along the lines of a Toyota Avalon or possibly a cheaper alternative to a BMW 5 series, but definitely not the Lexus LS or S-Class. For its price range however, I think it'll do fine and it will have buyers.

I... uh... think you could be correct. That interior is pretty crap by the looks of it. It is almost like all modestly priced cars have to implement tasteless interior designs...

though I don't like the wood on the steering wheel I think a a Buick or Avalon competitor it looks fine, as good as can be expected anyway. What were you all expecting for $30k?
