Ford's global lineup to get new 'One Ford' look

As part of its cost cuttings efforts Ford will be reducing the number of models it develops for unique markets and will instead offer a single global product with tuning and equipment levels suited for local tastes. The new system, however, will only affect global models, which means North American icons such as the F-150 pickup, Mustang and large SUVs will retain their individuality.

It makes sense. It's a formula that VW, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, etc. have been using. Make brand with a unique design and sell it globally. It costs money to make a diferent design for each market. But the main problem is having too many brands.

Ford should just use its Euro design studio to create all of its cars. I never see Europeans wishing that they sold US Fords here. I have seen it the other way round though.
