Audi A5 3.0 TDI Quattro: Road Tested

What a dreary place it would be if we lived in an alpha-numeric world. Yesterday I saw a herd of cows and on the rump of each was stencilled the beast's name: H78, C84, G51, and so on. Imagine the Magic Roundabout if the animals had been mere ciphers. "What's your name?" asked ZBD. "B29," replied the pink cow.

It's too late for cars, of course: instead of defining names such as Westminster, Mayflower and Spitfire, we now have E numbers, C numbers, and A numbers. For example, instead of Guildford, Marlborough and Matlock, we have the A3, A4 and A6. And now the Cannock, or A5 as it's known in Ingoldstat.

I quite like Cannock. Indeed, I would go one stage further and call it the Cannock Chase, given that Audi is in the hunt for a rather elusive animal: the young buck who wants a two-door family car. Try as you might, you will never capture a four-door A5, as none exists.

I must admit it´s an atractive car, (and I´m a die-hard BMW fan) But I still can´t bare to look at the AUDI`s dashes....They just don´t do it for me, They improoved indded, but that steering wheel must go.....

This is most definately going to be my next Vehicle

Just trying to decide between the 3.0 TDI & the S5

My cousin just had the ECU chip in his A5 3.0 changed and he noticed a diffeence in accel

So if the Diference in 0-62 times was S5 5.1 to A5 5.9 no it is more like S5 5.1 to A5 5.5

But with the huge Economy gains of the Diesel it seems like a no brainer.

Then again Diesels are so bloody noisy.

Modern diesels arent noisy on the inside of the car at least, but yeh those direct injection engines can be pretty rough

If I can fit in it (I'm 6'4" tall and long-waisted), the A5/S5 is probably going to be my next car. I think that the color in the photo is Aruba Blue, which looks beautiful to me.

I only wish Audi would introduce the 3.0 TDI engine in the A5 at the same time as the car itself. The diesel has 12% less hp than the 3.2-liter gas V6, but 50% more torque! Woohoo!

Wow, this car is amazing. A 100%, glowing review. It's gorgeous inside and out, has performance unexpected of a diesel engine and still gets 35 US MPG. Wow, I want it too.

I agree, 0-62 in 5.9 seconds is very impressive. High
performance and great fuel economy. You can't beat that.

A hybrid would have been a better choice if you want to preserve mother nature. The performance is not impressive nor is the fuel economy. A Lexus GS450h is faster and friendlier to the environment and has more usability.

Yeah but the Lexus GS450H gets worse MPG than the S5, and the lexus doesn't handle as good as the A5. Not to mention that the Lexus is FUGLY

Comparing the Audi A5 to the Lexus GS is foolish because they are completely different types of automobiles. And for my needs 0-62 under 6.0 seconds is impressive. I do'nt see how a hybrid is friendly to the enviornment when the battery only lasts for 100,000
miles before having to be discarded and what do you think happens to that toxic battery? Diesels on the other hand require less maintainence, they are clean,
and it's not uncommon for a diesel to get to 500,000 miles without any problems. Can you say the same for a wimpy hybrid?
