Japan Report: Nissan considering next sports-car

With the return of the silvia, nissan is gonna have a sport's car in every class.

I left Japan back in 2005, and that 'rendering' you posted was floating around then... and it's still as goofy looking/awkward as ever... LOL!

The U.S. market never appreciated the version of the Silvia they got (240SX sans in SR20/DET), so what in high heaven makes one think things will be any different today.

Having owned some of the most desirable (yet unobtainable) JDM vehicles of the 1990's (Silvia K's/Skyline GTR's/Eunos Cosmos 20B et al), I can truly testify that it's far more a case of wanting what one can't attain than anything.

Even when the GT-R makes it to U.S. shores next year, I seriously doubt that it will be a runaway success, as there will be far too many complaining about its rice-boy (and I think rather unattractive) looks, and astronomical price tag (for a Nissan branded vehicle).

We'll all see soon enough...

They way I read this article is that the Nissan exec's are trying to figure a way to replace the QR25DE.

The VQ already has a strong backing in the sports car world, however the QR is only found in the Sentra, Altima and the new Rouge...none of which qualify as a sports car.

Nissan realizes that the QR has reached it's limit and that the next generation of eninge needs to take its place...possibly a direct injection engine.

And before any Nissan fans string me up for saying the above, know this...of the cars we own my wife drives an 3.5 Altima and I drive a 04 Sentra SE-R Spec V at autocross events. So I think I qualify as a person who likes Nissan.

ALSO note to Nissan. The new Sentra...Really? That's what you call a good design?! Heck the Corolla looks better than it.

Silvia would be hot, but they should also develop an Infiniti platform-mate. That has the potential to be even better- put the twin-turbo six from the GT-R in, de-tune it to 400hp, and voilà.

But first, they should definitely focus on a Q45 replacement. Look at Acura for reference: if you want any respect in the luxury business, you need a full-sizer.

Who cares? The point would be to improve Infiniti's image. A high-end sports car, around $80K, would be good for them.
