Move over Toyota, VW planning full hybrid lineup and electric car

In a similar move to Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen is to offer a hybrid option on its entire future lineup including both mild and full hybrid systems. In addition to its hybrid onslaught, VW also plans to expand its range of ultra-efficient BlueMotion diesels and could one day have it as an option for its full lineup as well. There’s even talk of an all-electric vehicle based on the recently revealed up! minicar concept.

Actully Toyota is the first brand offer hybrid on all of their model by 2009 I belief. Anyway why a hybrid wannabe when you can get the real stuff from Toyota and Honda?

Why?

If they're hybrid diesels, I'd be all for it, but standard hybrids... I don't think so. Unless they offer the much-anticipated lithium ion batteries and significantly improved mileage.

What makes this a "hybrid wannabe?" Because it's not Japanese? What makes it any less "real" than Toyota's versions, if it's going to offer any better mileage?

Why would anyone buy a Toyota or Honda hybrid when you can get one wrapped in a VW?
