Ferrari Admits It's New Fuel Injection Technology Has Audi Inspiration
Screaming performance and Government demands for low emissions will force Ferrari to phase in direct fuel injection within two years.

The injection system will debut on a significant upgrade for the F430 coupe in 2009 before being grafted on to the 612 Scaglietti and then the 599 GTB Fiorano.

The Italian supercar maker is working closely on the system with Bosch, the German supplier deeply involved in developing Audi’s sophisticated FSI direct-fuel injection system.

Admitting it has torn down Audi’s fuel injection system to understand its possibilities, Ferrari insiders suggest that its new engine technology will allow for a 10 per cent improvement in horsepower more and at least a 40 percent reduction in emissions.

Well, only if they can put some more cupholders and improve cargo room... that along with the reduction in emissions would let me consider purchasing a Ferrari.

I saw this article lastnight at one of the "Porsche and other sports car owners' forum" I regularly visit. This is definitely a good thing as engine power can be increased with this technology and probably subtle engine design of the current powerplants.

10 per cent improvement in horsepower and at least a 40 percent reduction in emissions. What about fuel economy? Let me guess? 0 percent improvement in fuel economy. Maybe Ferrari should use a company that actually cares about fuel mileage for inspiration. If you look at Audi's most recent V8 offering the S5, Audi seems to not care about MPG.

FSI also increases fuel economy significantly.
It's one way how BMW has increased its fuel economy.

For example, in Europe there is a CLS350 and a CLS350 CGI (M-B speak for FSI). The CGI model has 295 hp (as opposed to 270), has better emissions and better fuel economy.

It reduces emissions and brings up fuel economy IN ALL ENGINES. This means that without it, the S5 (and all of their other V8/V10/W12 models) would have even worse mileage.

BTW, why knock cars like this? They're produced as objects of desire. It's also a matter of competition- everybody has a V8-powered car, except Acura of course.

Porsche, Ferrari, and Lambo need to get their S##t togehter to reduce emissions. I think it is a good thing and direct injection can only make them better.

Lamborghini is already using this FSI tech to combat with the Green Scheme. Lambo 1 step ahead of Ferrari...

I just hope the newly designed engine is not taken away from that 'Awe' factor.

audi and ferrari are sharing some tec.

audi is helping farrari with alumimum and the fsi and farrari gave audi the TT/R8 electronic suspention

this is another reason I think Lambo will be sold soon by Audi

Audi isn't helping Ferrari with anything. It is that Ferrari got a hold on some of their engines and took them apart to study them. Kind of like Leonardo studying the inner workings of the human anatomy. Kind of.

It's that Ferrari is working with Bosch, who codeveloped the FSI system with Audi, to develop their own system.

if you go to audi training on the TT they will tell you the delphi system they got from Farrari and that Audi will be sharing some tec with Farrari. They need FSI and the ASF to keep up with tech

In a welcoming pitch I say, "Audi isn't helping Ferrari with anything." I hope that will suffice next time.

Caltran, just because Audi owns Lamborghini and has helped shape the raging bull into a competitive marque is not a reason for them to give Ferrari a hand in technology. Audi could but wouldn't do anything for Ferrari simply because they own Lamborghini, whom you should know is competition for the Prancing Horse. Why help out the rival? So please, you shouldn't be so arrogant.

Lets simmer down folks. We're just seeing that A huge rivaled company of Lambo is working with a leader Audi, and not bmw or Benz, thats the real key.
This is For all those Bm and Mb fanatics to wonder about.
