2008 Cadillac CTS: "It handles like a 3 series....almost"

well at least we know that gm is trying unlike ford...

Ford may be doomed -- too much ill will built up with past customers who will never return to Ford. As for the new CTS, the rear seat cushions in the photo look far too short but I'll withhold final judgment until I check it out in real life.

The option package choices make BMW's option list look like one from a Hyundai Excel. It's a disgrace that Cadillac came out with a convoluted option list that makes the $34K base price resemble a car that the four wheels, engine, and transmission costs extra.
All of a sudden, BMW, Lexus, and Audi look a hell of lot more attractive to me.

Cadillac should know better. Are they tying to nickel and dime you to death or are they trying to dstroy the promise of the brand.

By the way, at around 4,000 lbs. the mileage, performace, and handling will suffer. Couldn't the engineers been a little more creative about the weight of this otherwise impressive model.

Let's not forget that the M5 tears down the 4000 pound barrier, and is exactly the same size as this CTS.

Hantra, lots of sprung weight is good in a luxury car as it makes for a more comfortable ride.

Shouldnt they compare it to the 5-series? Isnt didnt Caddy up the size of it to 'mid-size luxury'? This is stupid. They compared the last CTS-v to the M5, then the new CTS gets bigger, and they compare it to the 3-series.

Handling shouldnt be a big concern with this car. It should be trying to out-'plush' MB and Lexus.

Poor GM. They just can't seem to make a world class engine, other than the long standing V8 small block. I say chop two cylinders off that engine, and stop trying to build these wimpy V6's with technology that you have yet to master.

Uh... Hantra? They DID make a 6-cyl version of the small block. It's the 4.3 V6. Trust me, it's not really that great. I've got one, and it's terrible on gas, leaks oil like no tomorrow, and sounds really weird.

In the British market the CTS is compared with the 3 series, and the STS the 5 series...that's where it fits, right?

Yes, but both are a bit too large for their classes.

its not really to large, its just sized not like a compact but more like acura's tl, or the lexus es.

geez, 4,000 lbs 304hp 0-60 in 6.5 1/4 in 14.9? i already know exactly who is going to buy this car.

I'm not sure how will it handle but it definitely win heart on it design. I love the xenon headlights and interior design on this new Cadillac CTS.

Thing the the CTS has over the 3-series (and the 5-series for that matter), is that it can actually accommodate 4 real individuals comfortably for extended amounts of time, with an absolutely gorgeous interior - devoid of useless gimmicks, and a truly handsome/unique exterior that doesn't look like some bizarre cross-pollination of a 1990's era Pontiac and a generic Japanese family sedan.

Oh yeah... All at a more than reasonable price point!

How many have you owned?

I've been driving BMW's for the past 20 years (currently have an E46/M3 and E54/4.8is), and dealt with the substandard service practices, countless replacement of window regulators, fuel-filler door brackets, power window switch assemblies et al.

What kept me coming back was the purposeful design, and great handling, and one of those attributes has long given way to trendy 'flame surfacing', front fascias that look like Kabuki theater actors in drag, and horribly executed electronics/ergonomics.

i would have to agree, the CTS is a home run for cadillac, its good looking, its interior is good looking and right there with the competition. It is also does offer more value by it being bigger than the competition because realistically the CTS does compete with he 3 series, but its and the 5 series are about the same size. The cts is sized more along the lines of the tl, es, and the midsize a6, 5, e. IM sure this car will do very well i happened to see one on the road, very good looking. Cadillac got alot of people to buy the unique but awful interior of the last one (alot of people at that) this one in my opinion will take Cadillac in peoples eyes into a whole direction, and GM as whole lol now they have no excuse for not making a TRUELY competitive car.....

This new CTS is what the old 90s STS should've been. It can be had w/o options (plain-Jane) or optioned-out for a full sport-luxury experience...the American way. Or at least an American interpretation of the global luxury experience.

It looks good. The successor to the STS/DTS must be "stately" like a Bentley, but contiue the CTS design theme.

Am I the only one who thinks that interior looks horrible? I mean the leather stitching on the dash doesn't even look real! Cheapness all over the place! This is still no match for anything the Germans have to offer. I even think the GS has a better looking interior.

It's an luxury american sport sedan. The key word being american.

(at this point all the people who hate america and american cars, and will mix politics and old stereotypes with vehicles, can go ahead and say "hell it's an american piece of crap"...while the rest of us will be happy that the US has listened to the public and produced a great automotive product for once, and will support it.)

I think GM hit the nail on the head with this. Stop trying to be a European vehicle. We don't have european roads, or emmisions standards or crash standards or body size, or time spent commuting in traffic, or etc... so why build a car based around a different market.

Yes we like some of the same things that german cars have, such as responsive steering and dynamic handling...however the potholes that pock our daily commute here in the US need somthing a little less firm from a lux sport coupe. GM apparently understood this and took the best they could from the germans (like tuning) and encoporated it into an american design.

And just becuase AUDI, MB and BMW have based their size ranges around each other does not mean Cadillac has to do the same. So the CTS falls in between a 3 and a 5 or a 4 and a 6 or a C and an E, that fine with me. It fits right where it was designed to fit. I'm 6'2" and as a former BMW 3 series owner I can tell you with me in the car...no one is sitting right behind me when I drive. The extra room will be great for us tall drivers who acutally have family or friends that want to ride with us.

So to Cadillac, I say 'Well Done'!
