Originally, when the GMC Yukon Hybrid and the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid made their debut, GM said they expect a 25 percent improvement in fuel-economy than their standard versions. GM then said that it expects the hybrid SUVs to get 40 percent better fuel-economy giving them both 19 or 20 miles to the gallon.

Well now, GM is saying that the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon Hybrid SUVs will deliver fuel economy gains of 50 percent over their non-hybrid models...

Agreed. With a newer UAW contract which will free up billions of dollars in the coming years and an excellent array of hybrid and alternative fuel options, GM (with solid marketing) should be able to properly compete with Toyota.

I've been interested in the 2-mode transmission and can't wait to see real-world fuel consumption figures. It would be nice to know if GM was developing a 2-mode system for it's large and mid-size vehicles (Impala, Outlook, Vue, etc.)

you're confusing GM with toyota. toyota is the marketing hype company. it's an accomplishment when GM gets cars like this produced...good marketing would be too much to ask for!

The 3.5-liter 268 hp Toyota Camry gets 24 mpg combined.

Being Canadian I prefer L/100km because the American gallon is smaller than the old non existant Canadian gallon that is bigger and sounds better.Confusing!

The hybrids all reach the 2008 EPA measurements, or surpass it.
So the Tahoe hybrid's quoted 20 mpg is probably accurate.

nobody beats toyota's propaganda machine!
but it makes sense as they spend hundreds of millions of dollars more on marketing than any other brand.

how quickly we forget that toyota spent years claiming 60MPG and nobody achieved it. in fact, most people hit low 40s if their careful.

please do the math for me. which hybrids use "25-50% less oil per year than a diesel with equivalent mileage?" oh and also get the same performance as a diesel with 400+lb ft of torque.

The overall cost of a diesel is less than a hybrid considering initial purchase price and years of service. Hybrids are weak.

Real people get 36 mpg average in the Camry Hybrid.

That´s the best eco SUV! Forget the japanese Hybrids! That`s GAS GUZZLER! The Lexus LS600h need more gas than a BMW 750i, MB500 S, VW Phaeton 4.2 and Audi A8 4.2. More than a Diesel powered car.
Note:Buy only a US car or a german car and you save the world.

Ridiculous. It doesn't matter how efficient they claim the Yukon/Tahoes will be if uneducated drivers keep smashing the loud pedal. These trucks will not come close to their trumpeted MPG because 1) they'll be driven at 70mph plus. 2) Every stoplight is an opportunity to race somebody. Hybrids are a joke. Diesel rules!!
