Volkswagen's Scirocco Blows Its Top

The new Volkswagen Scirocco is about to go topless, Auto Express can exclusively reveal. The German manufact­urer is plotting a coupé-cabriolet version of its two-door sports car to challenge the likes of the Porsche Boxster and Audi TT Roadster.

We have already caught the hotly anticipated fixed roof variant of the newcomer being put through its paces in the US. And when that car goes on sale in the middle of next year, it pro­mises to stick closely to the styling of the stunning IROC concept, which made its debut at the Paris Motor Show in autumn 2006. However, it’s the chassis of the new Scirocco that will be most interesting to cabriolet fans. As the sleek two-door shares its underpinnings with the attractive Eos coupé-cabrio, VW will go on to adapt a CC version, which is likely to arrive in showrooms in 2009.

The open-air variant has yet to be officially confirmed by bosses at the company, but as our exclusive pictures reveal, it will look every bit as good as its conventional brother.

Yet another example of VW being completely unfocused...

They already have the EOS, and it's pretty pricey - given its market segment, so one can only imagine the asking price for this.

What exactly is this vehicle's proposed target market?

You can't sell more passenger cars than anyone else on the planet without a range of product.
Look at GM and they're 3 dozen SUV models.
You can say "unfocused" but the SUVs and pickups are the only things they build that make money!
(same for Ford and Dodge)

Okay, okay, this is just getting out of hand. PORSCHE OWNS VW. VW OWNS AUDI. Why would VW want to compete with their kin with every model in their lineup???

I have a feeling this will be a Nissan 350Z competitor more than anything else. The Scirroco is legendary- don't disrespect it, DaHarder. It will be very different from the EOS. Two seats, better-looking, much better-driving, etc.

You see, I grew up driving my uncle's hand-me-down Gen 1 (red) and Gen 2 (white) versions in high school...

My friends '78 Beetle Diesel with 1/3 of a million miles on it has the original seats and they look like new.
In fact, I don't recall ever seeing worn seats in a VW, and i've seen Jettas with 1/2 million miles on them.
Maybe if you brushed the mud off your jeans before getting in...
