Toyota Finds Their "Kaizen" Philosophy Also Means Going Green

Now, more than at any time in our history, people are concerned about the health of our planet. The state of our environment has become one of the most hotly contested issues in recent memory.

Increasingly in Canada, popular opinion is that climate change and global warming are real issues that must be addressed.

Many years ago, Toyota realized that by the time scientists could prove that climate change was a threat, it would likely be too late to do anything about it.

No! "Kaizen" means reducing waste in an organization and overall reducing the costs involved in producing a product, and building to DEMAND. It does not reduce quality, in fact, it improves it as rework is reduced and employees have better focus on their actual part in the manufacturing process, then trying to fix everyone else's work. Look up Kaizen online before you draw such a wrong conclusion.

Whatever BS Toyota marketing might have brain-washed you,
"kaizen" (Japanese) means "expand, develop".
It is pronouciation of two kanji characters (Chinese characters used in Japanese).
"Kai" means "open, start".
"Zen" means "expand, unfold".

if this is such a bad thing that toyota has/is doing...then why is their following with the likes of MB, Nissan, BMW, Chevy, Audi, etc. developing hybrid technology?

this board baffles me everytime a toyota headline is placed.

kaizen means the exact OPPOSITE: "constant improvement."

sometimes a lower cost can actually ensue, as with the extra speed in the new tranny built using fewer PARTS. the product itself IS constantly improved. costs are secondary.
