GM catching up with Toyota

Less than two years ago, the gap between the labor costs for a car made by GM versus one made by Toyota stood at a staggering $4,000. Most of the extra costs GM suffered included payments for health care, unitary wages and inefficient plants. However, with the signing of last week’s contract deal with the UAW, GM will shrunk the gap to a more reasonable $800 per vehicle.

I think it's both. Toyota is getting too big for it's own good and is starting to have "right hand doesn't know what it's left hand is doing" syndrome like GM used to have, and GM is slimming down, losing extranious appendages, streamlining the business, and greatly improving their product.

What are you talking about greatly improving their product? Just last week someone up here posted that they recall several hundred thousand vechicles. You call improving, give me a break.

But on the other hand they are reviving their Cadillac brand with the new CTS. I think they did a really good job with the new CTS design both interior and exterior.

I think that we are actually getting back to reality. I think that we all expected GM to bounce back. There is no way a company the size of GM can go out without a fight. Now the battle heats up between GM and Toyota and the only thing that will save Toyota for now is its reputation.

The only one of the Big three that has showed the least improvement is definitely Chrysler. Ford is bringing in sedans and at least trying even though they can do better and GM is bringing all the European products while creating Hybrid SUVs and making caddi into a fabulous brand starting with the CTS. Lets hop it continues.
