Should you mortgage your house for this car?

Dear 001,

I was out cruising with my digital camera when I saw the Mercedes SL65 roadster...

WOW!

All that kept going through my mind was 'Should I just mortgage my house' and buy this thing!

I'd love to hear what your readers think...

Alexander Waverly

I'd buy one just for the engine....twin-turbo V12, 612 BHP, 1000NM of raw torque. And to say the SL is an awful handling car? I agree with M1, the SL55 has won every comparason test it's been entered in, mainly for its fine handling, balanced chassis and engine.....I hear prejiduce talking here, not informed opinion.

Even though the first three thoughts which entered my mind were : 1) Rap Musician , 2) Nerdy surgeon and 3) Trophy housewife of nerdy surgeon --my final conclusion is that it's a nice car --just not a car I would ever care to buy . I'll take my 997 S over it hands down even if they were the same price .

I'm sure if you had the money to buy a SL65 you wouldn't really blink an eyelid over depreciation.

A cruiser? Far from it. This car has the power and poise to battle it out on the twisties. It may be more 'relaxed' than a 360, but 'cruiser' is very inappropriate. This exact same engine is also found in the S65, an S-class that can do 100km/h in 4.4 seconds.....
