Should Toyota Do The Retro Thing?

Should Toyota Do The Retro Thing?
Retro is always in and cool. This phrase always rings true: "What is old is new again".

Quite a few manufactures have either benefited from or are now joining the retro trend. Bringing back a classic is a tricky proposition, but if was an icon for the marque then it is an almost guaranteed bet.

BMW scored a major hit with the Mini, VW even did well with the Beetle. Ford bombed with the Thunderbird. But GM is bringing back the Camaro and Chrysler has revived the Challenger hoping to breathe life back into the battered brands. Even Nissan after a short hiatus from production saw the need to bring the “Z” car back to the public.

Wouldn’t our good friends over at Toyota benefit from same?

Think of it maybe a new 2000GT? Or how about the Turbo Supra? The original MR2? Maybe even the beloved Toyopet?

If Toyota decided to bring back a classic which one should it be?

The Veyron beats it in quite a few areas, even if the Supra is tuned to 1000bhp.

Nobody goes to toyota for performance vehicles, no need to bring anything back. Leave it to the companies that know how to build sports cars.

If they bring any car back, it should no doubt be the Supra. This site is way too biased to understand why a Supra is one of the best cars ever produced so I will anticipate the immature bashing of my comments.

I remember the 1st time I drove the MkIV Supra, all that I kept thinking was how the car was everything I had hoped my (then) Porsche 928 S4 would have been... and wasn't.

Yes, It is/was that good!

Supra would be a good car to bring back, as is a propwe MR2, NOT a convertible

Any Toyota Pre-2000 are ugly. Even the Supra takes a little time to get used to. Toyota's were plain, but reliable with a few exceptions. The GT would be a great car for retro come back.

No doubt be the Supra.

I vote Toyota Supra, but really, can they improve on it more? I like to keep the I6 and its design the way it is.

2000 GT. Saw a couple in person at the Toyotafest. Impressive, a true Japanese classic car, and admittedly there are only a few of those.
