Is This the World Highest Mileage Honda?

We may knock Honda's from time to time here.

But this car is living proof that with proper care most any car can log incredible miles. The owner has amassed an amazing 939,000+ miles on this Civic and is still on the original engine and transmission.

The owner spills his secret to such longevity by admitting to an oil change every 2500 miles for a total of 375 oil changes.

While I tend to log large amounts of miles on a vehicle before retiring them (200K+), I dare say this guy has me beat in spades.

But is the car still worth $2300 after such an illustrious history?

Honda's are really great cars. Maybe not the sportiest, not the most luxurious but they certainly offer one of the best overall packages out there.

I think the best Honda of all time would be the 86-89 Accord - that was definitely a car ahead of its time. Everything in it felt of high quality, it performed really well for the time, it was reasonable fast, handled well, was roomy, and got great fuel economy.

I had mine for 200,000 miles with no problems.

Not great, just so-so. Ask any body shop why they have to be careful not to grind right through the thin sheet metal during repairs on body panels. Honda uses too many SOHC engines instead of DOHC engines. Even the 2008 Accord V6 still onhy has single overhead cams.

As for frequent oil changes -- that is always good practice but all manufacturers should have pre-ignition oil pressure so that sufficient cyinder lubrication is present during engine start-up. There appears to be an auto industry conspiracy to avoid offering this feature.

my dad had a 89 lxi, apparently, some douchebag didn't yield (my dad was safe) a year ago and a half @ 225k.

The world record goes to volvo with about 2 million miles owned by a professor named irv something. I remember baout 10 years ago he was well over 1 million on his 1800 coupe. Honda does make a good car I know a guy right now with over 500k on his 89 accord. runs like a champ.

I think you can say the same of a lot of cars. I for one say that about Mercedes and Porsche because they've been so good to me over the years and years of ownership. Others say that about Volvo, Toyota, Honda and the like. Most cars that we quibble over on this site are good cars to drive and to own.

A couple of years back there was Volvo then went past a million miles. All he did was replace tires and change oil.

I like Hondas.
They're the most European of all the Japanese cars, they handle well, have good engines, good design (European ones at least), and many are made in Britain (European CR-Vs and Civics), plus they're reliable and have a good image; there's no shame in owning a Honda.

That would be Volvo- at least the single highest mileaged civilain vehicle (there are industrial vehicles with more than this on it I believe) reported to agencies that track such things.

The largest number of miles is on a 1966 Volvo P1800 owned by Irv Gordon -it has 2.6 million miles on it.

we currently have 2 hondas, 97 crv (meets a lot of our meets, awesome flipout table in the back) @ 125k and a 07 accord @ 13k. theyre great cars to drive every day.

I had an old 1980 volvo 242dl bought it with 346,000 miles on it to get back and forth to the base and I beat the hell out of that thing (only paid $300 for it) and it wouldn't die. I sold it to a buddy and he took it to guam and back and had well over 400,000 miles on it before we lost touch when i got stationed elsewhere.
