We got our first chance to see and photograph the production version of the new 2005 Audi A6 4.2, when we went to visit of friends at Audi of Mission Viejo.

And we can report that is every bit as impressive as when we saw it at the New York auto show.

It looks really nice in person.

Especially the interior...

Didn't the Edsel prove that won't sell?

A big grille doesn't make this cae ugly. It makes it more menacing, imposing. No, it won't appeal to conservative car buyers, but any car company that deliberately makes their cars bland to suit a certain demographic is not my kind of company. I'd rather invest my money in a car thats different from all the Acuras and Toyotas roaming the roads. Thumb's up to Audi. Their designers have injected some flair into a classy but a tad conservative lineup. Any car that invokes some controversy tells me the designers have done their job, pushed the envelope.

The grille also pays tribute to Audi's racing past. You also must remember that European design isn't always appreciated in America. Different philosophies. But only the Europeans can design the truely emotive, passion-filled automobiles.
