Lexus to replace 'reliability' in dictionary?

Lexus has topped the influential JD Power UK customer satisfaction survey for the seventh year running.

It scored highest in three of the four categories - vehicle quality/reliability, service satisfaction and vehicle appeal, but not cost of ownership - and received 862 points out of a possible 1,000, giving it a clear lead over next-placed Honda and Skoda (both 845). Next up in the league table were Lexus's parent company Toyota (832), followed by Daihatsu (824), Jaguar (816), Audi and Mazda (both 812), Mini (811) and Volvo (809).

The bottom 10 were Chrysler (748), Smart (750), Alfa Romeo (754), Fiat (756), Peugeot (762), Chevrolet (765), Saab (766), Vauxhall (769), Mitsubishi (773) and Suzuki (774).

Lexus and Toyota also took top honours in the individual model table, with the IS saloon and Toyota Prius sharing first place. The Lexus RX SUV came in fourth.

This year's study covered cars registered between September 2005 and August 2006, with thousands of owners taking part. Honda also did well in the survey, as did Skoda, second-placed overall and with its Octavia and Fabia fifth and seventh, respectively, in the individual model rankings.

well, I think the whole idea of this report is to determine what is crap and what's not. The loser is the crappy one, and let me look at the list again to see who isn't there?

umm, oh BMW and MB. There you have it, these are the crap actually.

Any survey that sends questionnaires to owners is inherently wrong by design.

E.G. My Mom can't tell you what is wrong with here car and sometimes she doesn't even know something is wrong..think about it

I can't comment on your mom's intelligence (or lack there of), but these surveys are functional.

A person might not know which exact wire causes it, but if they turn on their radio and smoke comes out they can sure note that in a survey.

Firstly don't insult my mother!

Second, if you do a proper analysis of all the surveys and I mean all (TQI, JD, CR, TD, AIS, etc) you'll see that the results are greatly discordant.

M35MT, don't be. The A3 and A4 are both among the top ten most reliable cars in the UK- so is the BMW 3 Series, and of course the Lexus IS. Audi and Jaguar have made huge strides in reliability lately.

it's not based on whats "wrong" with the vehicle, but what consumer's thought about the QUALITY, RELIABILITY during ownership, and CUSTOMER SATISFACTION.

it would be nice if one time, we could have people read the articles thoroughly before boasting about how poor or undeserved a manufacturer is in their own mindset.

Skoda is VW owned, and uses VW technology.
The thing is, it's older, proven technology, and their cars have fewer electronics to go wrong.
Thus Skoda's reliability exceeds the rest of VW group.
Skoda also came first in the last Top Gear survey.

All they're good at is, oh they have sporty feeling! lol
Junk cars with sporty feeling can actually sell, wow a very good marketing tool.

Wow, these anti-German posts are awful.

BMW AND MB ARE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE WITH ALL OF THE NORMAL BRANDS. Lexus, Jaguar and Audi all made it to the top ten. There are no premium brands in the bottom ten.

Actually, interestingly, Suzuki and Mitsubishi are at the bottom of the list. So much for Japan's inherent reliability.

Judging by the posts most of the Lexus fans can't even read. The article shows the top 10 and the bottom 10, any marks not shown were somewhere in the middle.

Lexus ALWAYS understates their 0 - 60 times by at least .5 seconds. Here are the results of the 5 Top Luxury Cars in this test which was reported in the January Issue of Car and Driver. Please note these tests were all done on the same day at about the same time and at the same altitude. The results reflect the average of 3 runs and all cars are the 2007 vintage.

Mercedes S550 5.6, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.1 (Benz show 5.4 in their specs)
BMW 750iL 5.7, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.2
Jag XJ Super 6.0 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.5
Lexus LS460L 6.2 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.6
Audi A8 6.8 0 - 60 quarter mile 15.2

Note that Lexus, as usual, is more than the 5.4 the manufacturer CLAIMS to get by .8 seconds.

Also note the LS430 (prior model the LS460 replaced) was rated at 295 HP and was actually 278 when Lexus corrected their rating. And there were no refunds or apologies from the so-called "quality" car company. ABC - Always Be Careful what you buy from the (REPREHENSIBLE) Toyota/Lexus people.....
