Corvette could get Haldex AWD system

nformation revealed yesterday in a UAW document outlined GM’s plans to install a dual-clutch gearbox in the C7 Corvette and now we have reports that it might feature an AWD system as well. GM and Sweden’s Haldex have developed a new performance AWD system called XWD that debuted in the facelifted Saab 9-3. The AWD system features an electronic differential and can send up to 85% of torque to an individual wheel to prevent slippage, whether it’s from a fast corner or when trying to put power to the ground.

I don't want a mid engine Corvette and I don't want a AWD System. It's not a Corvette unless it has the same layout as every generation. Front Engine, Rear Wheel Drive.

Geez, can the Corvette ever grow up? It is an established American sports car, now GM has the chance to make it a solid global supercar.

Heck, the RWD can still be updated/upgraded, but an AWD, mid-engine varient would definite flex the General's muscles on a supercar, $150k base price level, with limited availability of course.

I think offering a "C4 version" would make sense, but they need the regular RWD model as well. The Vette traditionally is a modest price tag and relatively crude overall layout. It is a no compromises entry level sports car.

This reminds me of the mid 80's when it was rumored that the Probe was the next generation Mustang. Controversial then, but look where we are today.

I agree that to have a rwd and awd layout as optional would be the best thing for the brand. Further, I believe the mid-front engine is not out the window as of yet. This solution gives pretty good performance gains and doesnt alienate the grandpas of above.

rg12345, It's no use getting a cheap AWD ssytem. The best AWD systems would have a couple of Torsen differentials. If I can't get a good AWD sytem like the one used in the Audi A6 and A8 and the Subaru WRX STI, then I would rather have RWD with LSD.
I have no desire to get an AWD system that leaves me stranded if an entire side of the vehicle is on glare ice.

You need both RWD and AWD. In no way should it be AWD only.
A mid engine AWD Vette would really be something. But then again the layout is not what's hampering the Vette. The speed and handling are far superior than those of cars which cost twice as much, including the R8. The styling and cheep interior is what keeps this car down.

Yes, the system should normally be in the RWD mode with AWD activated only when slippery conditions exist. I want all 4 wheels giving traction because I live in a cold winter climate but I can get by with RWD and LSD.

Currently the Z06 beats the Porsche 911 Turbo and GT3 on tracks in various reputable mags! I barely believe it. The ZR1 or ZO7 is going to be sick! GM is doing a great job and not getting too old school with the heritage thing and thinking globally. AWD will be an option.

Toyota and many other auto companies do not tie themselves down with heritage and just build better cars

Whoever said that RWD is inherently superior to all AWD systems should be shot. The R8 and 997 AWD variants prove you wrong.
