New Daimler AG to respect the ‘Benz’ Name
The re-named Daimler AG held a meeting with shareholders today to approve their name change from DaimlerChrysler to Daimler AG after selling its majority holding in Chrysler to Cerberus Capital Group.

The company was named Daimler-Benz before it merged with Chrysler. Now that it has divested itself of Chrysler, I can't understand why they can't just revert to the original Daimler-Benz name.

At least the passenger cars will continue to be called Mercedes-Benz. Considering how many people refer to a Mercedes-Benz car as a "Benz", and the history behind that name, it would be crazy for the Daimler suits NOT to retain the Benz name. Thank heaven for small favors!

There must be a hidden agenda here as Jaguar still makes an overpriced version called Daimler. It seems weird to have a British upper-middle-class car called Daimler produced by someone other than Daimler AG.

They separated. Daimler (Jaguar) and Daimer (Mercedes) were the same company a long, long time ago, if I remember correctly.
