Mazda CX-9 attracting luxury SUV shoppers

I think these new Mazdas are the best in their classes- they're much better-looking than the competition, they're much better to drive and they're just as versatile.

agree, the CX-9 is a fantastic vehicle, especially the 2008's. I'm actually excited for the new Mazda6, hopefully it shakes up the segment.

It won a comparo test against the MDX. Very nice interior.

I own one and for the money it is a great vehicle. The exterior design is right up there with the Q7 and other premium brands, it's not as overdesigned as the MDX (looks like something from robo cop), and the interior is clean and understated. It also has the best 3rd row seat out there. The seats need a little work though especially coming from a Saab 9.3. I think Mazda will do well with the CX-9.

There is no way to compare the Mazda to a Q7. Mazda does not have a superior AWD system with Torsen Diff like Q7 does. Mazda is very similar to Ford because Ford owns part of it (for now). I'll drive a daily rental Mazda occasionally but will not buy one.

yeah, the previous generation Protege, Mazda3i, or Mazda6 4-cylinder you occassionally rent is definitely what you should base your SUV purchase decision on. Because nothing gives you a better indication of what a brands most expensive vehicle is like more than spending a day in a rental version of its cheapest one. No need to actually check out the expensive vehicle itself, right? That's some genius thinking right there. And you're totally right, if it wasn't for that superior Audi AWD system with Torsen diff the CX-9 and Q7 would TOTALLY compete with each other. The fact that the the Q7 costs 1.5x as much doesn't have anything to do with it. It's nothing but that Torsen diff. That Torsen diff sure must be expensive though to make the Q7 1.5x more expensive. Must be one hell of a diff.

Anyhoo, if we're finished making stupid comments we can get back to talking about the new Mazda products.

It is a great car and I'm hearing lotsa good things about. my dad was going to consider one as well a pilot if his lease for his accord ends. we'll see.

This latest Mazda line-up is attracting a lot of buyers, regardless of income bracket, because they are beautifully designed/engineered vehicles, that look distinctive and perform well.

They can be such a PAIN!

Reliability has been a serious issue for both my current E54/4.8is and the E53/4.4i before it.

Love the looks, the handling and the interior, but little things like failed window regulators, instrument cluster LEDs, suspension boots, fuel-filler doors, etc. as well as new brakes pads/rotors far too often, have forced me to look elsewhere come replacement time.

And unlike many seem to believe in here, reliability (for which Japanese vehicles are renowned) matters so much more than having a blue/white roundels on one's hood/trunk, or an extra second or so to 60.

Note: You never want to leave a vehicle unsecured in Las Vegas, and that's just not possible when your windows won't work!

I've had several of my customers tell me about a window problem with their A6's.
But i have to agree here, you can't tell me so many people are trading in their X5's and other luxury SUV's for the Mazda. Though i would take the CX9 and CX7 over the MDX and RDX any day.

Maybe not trading in their overrated luxury suvs, but definitely doing more research and considering alternatives prior to purchasing.
