Ford to offer smaller car than Focus in U.S. by 2009
In the U.S. the only small car currently offered by Ford is the Focus, a model that hasn’t changed much since its 1999 debut. Now as Ford gets ready to launch the first redesigned version of the Focus this fall, Ford executives are starting to realize the need for a smaller car than their Corolla and Civic rival.

Focus wasn't too small to begin with- I'm sure they could cut some corners and come up with something that wouldnt be too much a change from the original
