Report: MINI Colorado won't be a traditional SUV

BMW’s CEO, Norbert Reithofer, has already confirmed the production of a MINI SUV (SAV in BMW’s world). What we know so far about the MINI SUV is that BMW will be outsourcing production of the vehicles to Magna International and that it is expected to hit roads in late 2010.

New information dug up by the folks at MotoringFile reveals that the MINI SUV will have an optional “Smart” AWD system...

I think it's SUV in terms of performance not size- which is good, ladies go crazy when driving SUVs like hummers

Can we say 'X3 tooling/investment amortization project' ?

I'm sure it will be a very nice, but very badge engineered version of the next gen X3.

I disagree. It will be on the MINI platform. BMW isn't dumb enough to re-badge the X3 for this.

Do you honestly think BMW will ever badge engineer anything???
And it can't be called Colorado because Chevy owns that name. Anyone else remember the scuffle GM and VW had over the name about 4 or 5 years ago?

Maybe it will be based on the 1 series architecture. Just a guess. I think the mini platform is too small, it would take alot of stretching and modifications when they could just use the 1 series underpinnings, as it is small and would keep the mini theme going.

Mini Clubman: 156in

It's not a huge difference. They could stretch either platform to fit this car.

SUV stands for sport utility vehicle! I see the sport and the vehicle but I can't see the utility! I see a nice sports car, kind of like a subaru.
