Who's the best?

Lexus ranks highest of any brand in the J.D. Power and Associates APEAL study for fourth straight year

Lexus ranked as the No. 1 nameplate overall for the fourth consecutive year in the 2004 J.D. Power and Associates Automotive, Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study in the USA.
In addition to leading APEAL as the top brand, Lexus had two segment award recipients. The RX 330 was the "Most Appealing Entry Luxury SUV" for the second year in a row, and the LX 470 was the "Most Appealing Premium Luxury SUV," followed by the GX 470 which ranked second in the same segment. The LS 430, SC 430 and IS 300 also performed well in their respective segments.

Now in its ninth year, the 2004 APEAL study has established itself as a benchmark for measuring the appeal of new vehicles and owners' satisfaction with their new vehicle purchase. This year's report is based on information from more than 103,000 owners of new 2004 and early release 2005 model-year vehicles.

Respondents decide what they like and don't like about their new vehicles' performance and features after 90 days of ownership. The study asks the owners to rate more than 115 attributes that cover eight areas of vehicle performance and design. The areas include engine and transmission; ride and handling; exterior styling; comfort and convenience; cockpit and instrument panel; heating, ventilation and cooling; seats; and sound system.

"We are pleased that Lexus continues to demonstrate its reputation for product excellence" said Stuart McCullough, Director of Lexus Europe, "In the very near future, the Lexus experience will even go beyond customer expectations thanks to a stronger than ever product line-up, a revolutionary hybrid powertrain, a new design orientation and a reinforced quality and refinement level."

One thing is reliability. Another thing is appeal. At least as I understand it, appeal in the automotive arena is used in the styling category (visual appeal). If you define appeal this way ... then JD is smoking something!

Besides, JD has always been a subjective and indirect way of ranking automobiles (I don't deny Lexus' leadership in reliability but it's not so clear cut from the other leaders either).

I am in the market for two cars, one of them being a lux SUV and the other a sporty commuter or lux sedan. I've looked at Audis, MB, Acura, Infiniti, Volvo, Saab (wife), VW and even Hondas (non-lux) before I look at Lexus.

Title: why???
Comment: Why spend the extra money to purchase a Lexus???? Get the same vehicle with the Toyota badge (e.g., RX 330 vs. Highlander, GX470 vs. Land Cruiser)."

Actually the RX is its own platform same w/ the GX.

The only toyotas that share platforms are the es330 (camry) and the lx470 (land cruiser). both of these cars made by toyota are awesome after your lexurize it makes something rare. A luxury vehicle that is dependible.

Also nobody compares the is300 to the m3. The m3 is about 20k more so about 2/3 the price more than the is300. Why not compare the m3 to like the s4, c55, and cts-v Cars that are in its class,

Platform as in 4 wheels engine and metal?

I dont know how that 4 runner and gx are based on the same platform the whole vehicle configuration is different.. Seating orientation etc.

I was wrong, but still saying the gx is based off the 4runner makes it lose absolutly no appeal to me. The 4 runner is awesome, then lexurize it and its one great vehicle. I still don't get why people bash Lexus because of its toyota siblings.

It's only the ignorant that think Lexus is ''just'' a rebadged Toyota. Toyota is the best car manufacturer the world over which is why they have the most units sold all over the world.
I own a Lexus and thats why no one can tell me that Lexus is inferior to any other car in the world. The LS has beat the S-class a million times. The IS has beat the 3-series 2 million times. The best SUV on the planet is the Toyota Land Cruiser(LX470). Lexus is winning these rewards because no other manufacturer can match the quality and design of Lexus. The Germans thought they were the leaders in automobile manufacturing, but now where are they.
The Japanese have taken over for good. Toyota is at the top for the lowest price.
