Revealed: Audi A1 Concept

Interesting, but...

As VW already sells vehicles in the subcompact segment, and I feel that AUDI should focus their efforts elsewhere.

I just don't get the VW-Group's strategy, as their vehicles seem to 'stumble' all over each other.

This makes perfect sense, as we all know vw does not compete with any of Audi's competitors, and Audi's target is to increase Revenue and Stature at or above competition level by 2015(ceo @ audi). It makes perfect sense to start with the A1 , seeing as the a2 is sold in europe, and bringing that over here would not be as profitable as brining in a new product to the market, therfore letting other automotive brands know that Audi is just as serious as they are in marketability, and competitive technological and automotive design. Hence the integration of the gadgetry in the A1 that no other company has set out to approach or display, IE BMW Mercedes.

For the U.S. market, I feel that a vehicle like this would do AUDI more harm than good.

It's not like they're at the very top of the sales charts among luxury marks in the U.S., even though their products are more than competitive.

Let VW handle the smaller cars in the U.S. and AUDI deal with the larger/more luxurious ones, instead of bastardizing sales from each other.

That's why it's not coming to the US. This will be for Europe and Asia only.

What I find even more interesting is the gorgeous interior and the onboard electronics.. that is really cool and the portable device looks like a portable Audi MMI system... so cool!!

I agree! I even said in the other A1 article that I think it looks like it has an iPhone interface in the center stack.

The exterior looks much, much better than I ever thought it would. Aggressive, chic and perfectly-proportioned from every angle. Dare I say, it looks better than the MINI and the 500 by a long shot. It will be more expensive, though.

The A2 wasn't really considered as a city car, more like a small mpv.

The mini exterior is nice & funny, but the interior is pure crap. I just can't stand it, I tried, several times. I really like the Mini, I considered one a while ago, but once I get into the car I have to get back out. Besides Mini lost to a VW (MotorTrend Oct 07, I think; or maybe Car&Driver, not sure).

^ Question, what VW model would actually be considered a direct competitor to the Mini in size/performance?

Note: VW doesn't even sell any sporty sub-compacts in the U.S. any longer, so any comparisons to the VW Rabbit/GTI is a bit off the mark.

VW cant get enough of making all its brands compete with each other, they have to be some of the worst product planners, why would you have an a1,gti,rabbit,golf, a3,as well as the skoda and seat variants, the polo. all these cars are essentially in the same segment. what is the point. thats like the cayenne, a7, toureg, that also compete with each other. the list goes on, good job at creating a car to compete against yourself

Also porsche is about to buy out VW, i can't wait to see people like you knocking off porsche for saying "its just a vw" what are you going to say then "its just a porsche"! Plus creating more for your car brand and sisters brands just brings in more revenue, the main focus. the head ceo's at the auto families probably get together and discuss these things on a Outward competition level. I could go on for a page on why this is not at all a bad niche for Audi, but i dont think you'd be on that level.

that car is a total POS, and any audi fan that thinks this A1 is cool then your more of a loser than i thought you just a fan of a four ringed symbol, not quatrro engineering.

Yes, a car that has 150 hp and gets 48 mpg combined has sucky engineering, and that's with all wheel drive. And it can double as a plug in with 62 miles of range, double that of the Chevy Volt concept.
