Audi A4 and Q7 with 3.0 Turbo Diesel coming to U.S. in 2008

good news! lots of diesels coming to the US.

I would not mind an A4 with that diesel but I sure hope it's not an inherently-out-of-balance 90-degree configuration.

No. Modern diesels are super clean. There is no difference in exhaust quality. Only quantity.
if you drive mostly in the city a hybrid uses less fuel.
If you drive mostly on the highway, a diesel uses less fuel.
All fuel becomes green-house gases after it is burned, so fuel consumption == pollution generation.

Modern Diesels Engines DO NOT BURN AS CLEANLY as modern Petrol Engines.
Good God man, just come to the UK/Europe and sit behind one of thee diesels and see if you still think diesels are as clean as their petrol Counterparts.

And the sizeable dust cloud that occurs when you accelerate away hard is Proof enough. You have to remember that Particulate filters are not standard on UK/European Diesel powered vehicles.

I95SPEEDINGTICKETS, you have been following used diesels while driving in Europe. These older diesels will take a long time to get off the road. It is only in the last year or so that new diesel cars have become super clean. Hybrids are a crock as they do not have an attractive life-cyle cost and, as r_driver04 said above, they drive like toy cars. Hybrids also quickly run out of energy when driven hard.

A4 3.0 TDI quattro is pretty fast!

Ignore Evil Homer's rudeness, racer. Audi did provide some preliminary information on the new A4 in the Fall 2007 issue of "Quattro" magazine. Audi claims that the 2009 A4 3.0 TDI can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 6.1 seconds - 0.1 seconds faster than the same car equipped with the 265-hp, 3.2-liter V6 petrol engine, and almost as fast as the 340-hp, 4.2-liter V8 petrol 2008 S4.

How can this 240-hp diesel-powered car do this, you ask? The answer is simple - torque, lots of torque! This beauty generates 406 ft-lbs. of torque, compared to 302 ft-lbs. for the 4.2-liter V8!

I can hardly wait until December. Who says there is no Santa Claus? :=-)

Well, the new S4 is gonna be a full second quicker to 60.

Audiphile... I love the A4 3.0TDI, but no, it can't touch the new 2008 S4, which has a 354hp V8 (0-60 in 5.0 sec).

the 0-60 times tells you how the car was geared to say the car is fast. I want to know how a car feels driving from 20-80- or going uphill with a full car or driving at 70 and hitting the gass

S4cabriofoxone - you mean the 2009 S4, don't you? I just rechecked the Audi website, and they said the 2008 S4 "only" has 340 hp, not 354. The 0-60 time for the current S4 sedan is 5.3 seconds, not 5.0.

Do you know when the new S4 will be coming out? My lease expires in December 2008, and the new A4 will just be coming out then. Unless Audi plans to roll out the S4 and A4 simultaneously, I wouldn't be able to consider the new S4.

If your thing is drag-racing you should be dropping an Integra engine into your mom's Civic.
If you want a car that goes faster than you need, in true luxury, with excellent handling, on minimal fuel, then maybe this is the car for you.

Yes, I meant the 2009 S4, sorry. If you know the specs on the S5 (354hp, FSI, six-speed, rear-biased quattro), it's going to have an identical drivetrain. The S5 has gotten from 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds in one magazine; that's RS4 territory. I wouldn't be surprised if the S4 gets around 4.7.

If they do the same thing with the S4 that they did with the S5, perhaps it will come out BEFORE the A4.

Yay!! The lease on my Audi A8L expires in December 2008 - just in time to order an Audi A4 3.0 TDI! Unless the sex appeal of the S5 and A5 woo me away, the diesel A4 will be my next ride!!

Oh, I doubt you'd be able to get an A4 to replace your A8L... the call of the S5 is strong for me, too. What a beautiful car! The RS4, S5 and S6 are all going to be on my shopping list.

Seriously, you are right that the 2009 A4, though very nice, is not as elegant a ride as the A8L. However, that big Audi is a little rich for my bank account right now, so I probably won't be leasing another one. Besides, Audi plans to release an all-new A8 for the 2011 model year, and I'd rather wait and (maybe) lease the latest edition.

I leased the A8L for two reasons. One - it's a wonderful car. Two - at the time it was the only Audi I could fit into - I was too tall for all the other models.

My height (6'4" tall, long-waisted) has frustrated my car shopping for years. For example, my Audi dealer just got in a S5. It's a beauty, but unfortunately my head just the ceiling when I tried to sit in it. Since the A5 is coming out in early 2008, let's hope I can fit in that one - the S5 has Recaro-designed seats, and the A5's seats might be a little lower - I need less than an inch of additional headroom. If that is indeed the case, I can get the A5 with the S-line suspension, with a more appealing color choice, at a lower price, and save some money on gas.

If the A5's doesn't provide enough headroom either, I can always consider the new A4 coming out in late 2008. That car is longer and has a taller roof, so I might be able to fit in it. If so, that new 3.0 TDI engine would be the frosting on the cake - great performance, good gas mileage, and saving the planet!! Now if Audi would only put the DSG in the A5/S5 and A4 ...

I don't have that problem, LOL, so I can fit into any Audi model (including my A3 that I use as a winter car) with relative ease.

No, I think it's the designers, not the marketers... the cars have to be short to look hot. Sportier cars are lower. It makes sense, yes?

But I feel for you. Not fitting into an S5... that's disappointing.

Sorry to hear of your problem. I am 6' 4.5'' and I currently drive my brother's work car, an A4 2.0TDI S-Line 170ps ( I Swear that is the model as it is described on the paperwork) and I manage to fit in it with little effort and it even has a sunroof (suppossed to lessen headroom) So i think you should go try a current A4 and if you fit in that then you should be okay in the new one.

I don't even use the seat on the lowest setting, i do have it as far back as possible though with the backrest as close to vertical as comfortably possible.

So it might be that the coupe profile of the A5 was just below your comfort margin but the Saloon would be OK.

Being from the UK i am used to squeezing into Vehicles. had no problems with my cousin's A5 3.0 TDI, or my colleague's TT 3.2 Cabrio.

Any estimates on gas mileage or price on the A4 TDI? Is it coming this December or December 2008?

Official figures for Europe for the 3.0 TDI quattro are:

City - 9.6l/100km (24.5 MPG)
Highway - 5.4l/100km (43.6 MPG)
Combined - 6.9l/100km (34.1 MPG)

The Q7 3.0 TDI is still available overhere in it's old form with 233hp.
The official figures from that one are

City - 14.6l/100km (16.1 MPG)
Highway - 8.3l/100km (28.3 MPG)
Combined - 10.5l/100KM (22.4 MPG)

Excpect better from the new 240hp version.

Finally. Audi and BMW dealers locally have been talking about diesel sedans for years. I like the E320 CDI, but I'd rather drive an Audi (with Eibach springs) or BMW.
