Tricycles For Adults Would You Buy One?

A motorcycle that grew an extra wheel, or a car that somehow lost one? It's possible to make the case for either when it comes to the Can-Am Spyder, a head-turning, motorized means of transportation that will start showing up on American highways this month.

The Spyder is licensed as a three-wheel motorcycle, has cycle-style handlebars, engine and seat. It shifts like one, too.

But how many motorcycles have power steering, stability and traction control, anti-lock brakes — even a reverse gear?

"It's a sports bike with training wheels," says Army Sgt. 1st Class John Wayne Barna as he admires a Spyder on the sales floor at Bert's Mega Mall, a sprawling motorcycle and boat shop in this Los Angeles suburb. "Plus, I'm going to be the first to have me one."

Other than the Power steering because motorcycle dont steer, you would be surprised. All BMW's come with ABS, heavier motorcycles like the Wing and K12LT come with reverse and more and more bikes every day are getting traction control. I hear the '08 Ninja even has it.

On looks alone, I'd go with this; and the Spyder produces roughly the same 0-60 time as the T-Rex, but with a smaller engine, and for a whole lot less money. However, I'd be less inclined to make hard turns with the Spyder, for fear of flying off.

i once had a pilot as a tenant.

describing a flight i was on once, where instead of the usual dawdle/creep on the taxiways, the pilot scooted along right up to the runway.

we joked about his nearly making a "3 point drift" onto the runway prior to takeoff!

This will be a hot seller with the "Honey, its not a bike, its really just a 3-wheeled car!" crowd.
But if you need her permission to buy it, will she approve of the $15k price?

Its a cool machine ... but it would be a lot cooler if it was under $10k

This is a special bike and it looks very cool. But can it ride very fast? I meet many friends on a site called bikerkiss. We usually talk about motorcycles together. They are suspicious of its spate too.

off the top of my head, i'd say it won't be as fast on top end, due to greater frontal area.

as for cornering, only testing will show which type develops more cornering ability. traditional bikes can be heeled over further. but this trike does have TWO contact patches up front.
