Is the new Mazda 6 2.0 TS2 a viable alternative to Ford's Mondeo

There’s a revolution on the way in the new car market. Although sales in the large family class are dwindling, the quality of the models available has never been better.

The latest Mondeo is one of the best cars Ford has ever produced, while the next-generation Vauxhall Vectra – due in dealers in autumn next year – promises to be a big step forward, too. So do the new Citroen C5 and Honda Accord.

From January, Mazda will add the new 6 to the mix. Available in hatchback or saloon form (with an estate following in March), and priced from £15,500, it’s bigger and better looking than before, and also offers more quality and standard equipment.

Penned by Youichi Sato, who also designed the last-generation RX-7 coupe, the 6 is certainly attractive. The deep, V-shaped grille, angular headlights, pronounced wheelarches and LED tail-lamps are particular highlights.

I think that they're both very compelling entries, and will sell very well.

They'll come around, just as GM is doing, and see the value in tapping their international resources to make their line-ups more competitive.

The Mondeo is awesome looking. They should offer it here in North America. It would take over the Fusion in sales and then some.

This car is awesome. Seriously, if this car had a more prestigious badge on it, it would sell like hot cakes (although I have never seen anyone actually buy a hot cake). I cannot say enough of good things about this car...All I want to state here for someone who may be reading from the company is - PLEASE GET THIS VERY CAR TO USA...THE SEDAN, HATCH AND WAGON.

Mazda is one of the few companies which take their road-racing tech and apply those to their road cars...in safety and driving feel. I love Mazda's because they are very tight in feeling and in driving. They feel great to drive and I have driven some of the new models and can say...WOW!

If Ferrari built a budget sedan/hatch/wagon, it would be the Mazda 6 - specially this new one.

I am getting ready to buy a new car about the same time as my birthday in February and I hope this will be available or at least about to be introduced here in the USA. I am a Honda fan...lawnmowers, etc..and I love the New Accord and Civic...but, I will take this instead ... the only decision will be which one....I love the looks of the sedan....but the hatch is sexier and is a lot like a 4-door coupe and offers extra cargo space. The wagon looks like a shooting brake and very sporty and very beautiful....and does offer more cargo space than the hatch.....but how much space does a person need? I think the hatch with a nice rear spoiler fits my life properly.....but I really like the wagon too.

I just hope they get it here.

Love this new Mazda6. I currently own a 2006 Mazdaspeed6 and love every minute of it. My daily commute is an adventure instead of a hassle.

I am holding my breath on the U.S. version of the Mazda6. From earlier spy shots, it is clear that there will be some consmetic changes. Also, the US model will be larger than the Euro version. There is rumor that it could also be on an entirely different platform. And I still havent seen solid confirmation of whether the new Mazda 6 will have Ford's 3.5 or 3.7 V6. I am sure it will be an improvement over the current version, but I worry that the US version will lose a considerable amount of the goodness of the car the rest of the world gets in favor of more mainstream sensibilities. Oh, and I wouldnt count on anything other than a Sedan version making its way over here. The wagon and hatch versions of the current car were nailed to showroom floors.

If the US version is largely the same as the world version, I know where I can find my next car. The next Mazdaspeed version will truly be something else if it gets a twin force V6 as rumored.
