2008 Lexus GS: $245 gets you 52 more horsepower

The GS 430 starts at $71,300 in Canada even though the Canadian dollar is now worth more and the North American market is virtually a common market. What a rip-off!

$70k for a GS???? Why do they even bother? There shouldn't be any takers at that price.

Exchange rates have little to do with cost of living, Canadians earn Canadian dollars, and Americans earn American dollars. No one was complaining when the Canadian dollar was worth half.

You're way off dumbass. Jaguar was an independent company that Ford took control of. Lexus is a brand wholly controlled and contrived by Toyota. Jaguar will be free from Ford soon enough. Lexus will always be Toyotas.

The Taurus was actually designed to look like older Jags from its conception... and of course, the XK was, too. But the XK is just stunningly beautiful. Check out the rest of its body before you bash it.

For a overpriced toyota lexus has no problem selling them can't say that for Jaguar.

Lets not go to far now. I recently read about some reliability issues on the GS. That's right, I said it. The GS has had some issues as of late. But it's a Lexus, so all is forgiven. lol

Try an E550 or a 550i. Even the M45 is better than the GS.

GS300, I could say the same thing about my car (which is true-- no problems for two and a half years!), but you would probably call me a liar because of Audi's reputation. A company is not able to live on its reputation, but its products. The GS has just been rated below the A6 and 5 Series by CR for 2008.

Relax, it wasn't a put down.

I was simply pointing out that Jaguar has a long and illustrious history that predates Ford's corporate takeover. Toyotas are great cars. Lexus is a great brand. But my eyes do not make a differentiation between the two. When i look at a Lexus, I see a Toyota. Not necessarily a bad thing, considering Toyota's manufacturing reputation, but it is a bad thing when i judge Lexus in relation to other luxury cars. Its obvious 'toyota-ness' makes it less appealing TO ME than other 'pure' luxury cars.

Long story short: i like Lexus, but i apply a 'glass ceiling' to their products. There is a price point (+$55k) at which a luxurious Toyota is no longer acceptable, and i want the genuine article, i.e. a European luxury car.

That's your opinion. Lexus sells a lot of cars over 55k that people buy. A lot of people. In fact they have a waiting list for this one particular model costing about $120k. So obviously there are A LOT of people who see Lexus as not only a premium brand but also one that is better than MB/BMW (such as myself).

Jaguar is an international brand. No one outside of the U.S. even knows what a Ford Taurus looks like. The XK's new face isn't as big a deal as you think.

I prefer something new rather than something whose main selling point is basically that they've been around longer than anyone.

It's not hard to find an article, that has nothing to do with Lexus, that has a comment about Lexus. Lexus ALWAYS understates their 0 - 60 times by at least .5 seconds. Here are the results of the 5 Top Luxury Cars in this test which was reported in the January Issue of Car and Driver. Please note these tests were all done on the same day at about the same time and at the same altitude. The results reflect the average of 3 runs and all cars are the 2007 vintage.

Mercedes S550 5.6, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.1 (Benz show 5.4 in their specs)

Note that Lexus, as usual, is more than the 5.4 the manufacturer CLAIMS to get by .8 seconds.

Also note the LS430 (prior model the LS460 replaced) was rated at 295 HP and was actually 278 when Lexus corrected their rating. And there were no refunds or apologies from the so-called "quality" car company. ABC - Always Be Careful what you buy from the (REPREHENSIBLE) Toyota/Lexus people.....
