MotorTrend test drives the Lexus IS-F

MotorTrend test drives the Lexus IS-F
The car is, quite simply, a monster: Acceleration is brutal, the brakes are wicked-strong, and handling grip is immense (a Sport mode for Lexus's VDIM stability-control system increases steering weight, boosts throttle response, and allows the tail to step out usefully before the electronics step in; Lexus says Sport produces faster lap times than switching off the system altogether). You could easily convince yourself you're driving a track car. The engine note completes the illusion.

It's gonna happen; from the three reviews, looks like every single one of them has it on par or quicker than the M3.

Still looks terrible.

"Still looks terrible."

Too true.

Definitely the most favourable review of the three. Can't wait to see a comparison test with all four cars in this segment. I can't help but wonder if they're impressed because its a great driver's car, or a great driver's Lexus though.

^^^ yes, the four compared should be those. i doubt any other is on par or in the same segment of these four, so far.

we'll have to wait for the fifth, being the cts-v

I think its pretty apparent that the C63 will be the fastest out of the 4, I'm just wondering if its going to be as fun to "drive" as the others.

Yes. That has already been established by the reviews.

the best looking color so far tested is this dark red that motor trend has. maybe its the scenery but damn this car is looking beautiful in the Matador Red Mica.

can't wait for the comparo's

The Yamaha-tuned V8, does it have a dry-sump system?

I presume so seeing as it has an oil scavenger pump, can't find any actual info though.

Apparently AMG have invested heavily in both time and money to make sure handling is up to that of the competion. I think it will be.

It has the CLK black series front axle.

The looks, not a huge fan of it, but i can easily change those side air fenders, and well the performance, C&D is reporting 0-60 time of 4.2 seconds, and motor trend is reporting in 4.7 seconds. I will presume for average drivers the time will be about 4.8 and for the skilled ones about 4.5 seconds. And the car seems to handle pretty well, went through the slolums at 71 mph. The suspension seems to be quite rigid and may be uncomfortable for some, but the roads in my place are pretty smooth, so that will not be an issue.

Okay, I'm getting sick of this. The cars in this class are all TOO GOOD!!! Can I have one of each?

It sounds quite impressive. Great handling, great gearbox, great engine. I am really, really going to have a hard time deciding on my next car.

The cherry on top is that this car looks fabulous in red. I don't say that about most cars, but it works perfectly with the bodykit and hides the car's more ungainly features well.

Surprisingly, it makes the the car look voluptuously sexy. I think that Matador Red Mica is the best colour for the IS-F.

I agree... but Lexus's amazing white paint treatment is a very close second.

HOWEVER- I think this should be the IS-F's signature color. The RS4's is Sprint Blue, the M3's is either Silverstone Metallic or Indianapolis Red Metallic (debatable), and the C63's is that awesome gunmetal color. The IS-F's is officially Matador Red Mica, and not the scary purple color they used on the show circuit.

Looks are subjective... but IF it can PERFORM (which, from these reviews, looks like it can) then BRAVO Lexus! (p.s. I do hate the way that it looks but that is not always the most important thing about a car, especially if you are in the driver's seat =] )
