The first automaker to put a diesel engine in an auto has just made diesel history once again. A small sampling of diesel technology for the deprived Japanese public. Will they welcome this new technology? thats still to be seen.

I was in Taiwan in the beginning of september and was really surprised to see one of these on the freeway. Fuel cost over there are really high. Fast and fuel efficient and quiet.

Most of the argument before against diesels, was loud, no power, and slow, well now they have improved a lot. I think is a good choice.

OMG Mercedes tries to maximise profit!!! How dare they try to do what ALL FIRMS DO???

Really, why do Mercedes use only cow leather? They should use the best mink fur to make it nicer, damn them, trying to make money...

"It's sad that Mercedes continues to only provide the bare minumum inorder to maximize profit"

seriously huu?

did you read it's THE ONLY diesel approved for sale in japan? why can't anyone else meet this bare minimum?

and by the way, the article is WRONG. it's the bluetec that was approved for sale in california and japan.

emissions on diesels are as good as the best gasoline engines.

and it's the hybrids that really disappoint with mileage. in c&d the GS450 got 20mpg overall vs. the E320 34mpg overall.

so the choice is wildly better mileage OR slightly better emissions. tough one.

"There's a reason why Japan's economy is bigger than Germany, France and England combined, Japan makes smart choices, not easy ones."

Yen is very weak, pound sterling is the strongest currency (that's from England, huu76). Japan's economy recently has taken back seat recently, unemployment is rising, and guess which country has one of the highest suicide rates amongst teenagers, yes you guessed it. Japan....very smart decisions they make over there.
