Toyota to cover defect (un-Recall- Recall) Only 600,000 Siennas affected

I certainly respect the fact that Toyota is 'getting these issues resolved', but their name is suddenly attached to way too many recalls/issues.

Verdict: Reputation For Quality On The Down-Slide.

So they're offering to fix something that is potentially hazardous by sending a letter out to notify customers that Toyota will pick up the tab.......the only reason it's not a technical recall is that toyota moves quicker than the government. Thats not saying much though. In all truthiness, its a recall.

How many more recalls are we going to see? I hate to say this but I'm starting to see where Consumer Reports may have a point on not recommending these vehicles.

Well they knew it was going to be a recall, so they beat the feds to the punch. Recalls are recorded but TSB's such as this are not generally counted.

It is a way of saving face by doing it before you are told to do it by the feds.

lol. Yes. Toyota loves its customers so much that they are now asking them to bring back their cars to make whats already perfect even better!

so, if its not a factory recall then ... what do you call a defect that affects all models of that minivan that Toyota is publicly admitting as well as offering to cover expense of repair? hmm... yes, last I checked, that is a FACTORY RECALL and they SHOULD pay for it, that is what a factory recall is!!!!!!

It IS a recall. Toyota is trying to water down its recent increase of recalls by informing buyers of potential problems before it becomes an official recall.

Most recalls from other auto manuf send letters if it is important! Very interesting loop hole Toyota has found out...hehe. It is smart and Toyota is known to be smart.

The bad wekk for my beloved Toyota continues. But perspective people... There hadnt been many quality/recall issues for a very long time since the last round, and in that meantime, many more mfrs recalled hundreds of thousands of vehicle for fires, brakes, you name it.

And BTW, since Autospies hasnt posted this yet, the folks at Autoblog posted that Toyota has responded to the Tundra tailgate issue ans stated they will fix the affected units. Thats being a responsible company. People forget that the original LS400 had a mfr defect right out the gate. Toyota replaced every CAR (not just the part).

And I could be wrong, but I believe it's not a recall unless NHTSA(?) says so.

Toyota should close it's doors and go out of business if they can't build nice lookin' cars.

imho, way TOO MUCH ADO is made over recalls, where the mfgr picks up the tab. i used to own a 2000 ford focus, the all-time recall KING. most of the recalls were for very MINOR issues. it still remained the best handling car in its class for many years.

what about REPAIRS once of the warranty period? NO other mfgr than toyota/lexus has a better record here.
i replaced the focus with a corolla-- FAR BETTER on maintenance and costs. and the handling deficit was more than made up with just a wheel/tire upgrade.

i also still own an absolutely reliable '94 toy truck, which i owned before i had the focus. made far more sense to dump the focus, than this 6 year older toyota!
