Infiniti Diesels Are Coming!

Nissan has filed patents for the names: EX30d, G30d, FX30d, and M30d at the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The all new engine is a Renault/Nissan joint venture. It is a 3.0 liter V6 dCi that produced 261 horsepower and 406 lb.ft of torque. The V6 dCi also includes a variable geometry turbocharger, which generates a high level of torque even at very low revs.

The engine’s air intake ducts have been specially designed to increase combustion speed inside the cylinders by swirling the air in the cylinders—the swirl effect. Cooled EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation), which uses a Renault-patented air/water intercooler, contributes to overall environmental performance of the engine.

The architecture of the exhaust manifolds has been designed to limit load losses and ensure that the maximum amount of energy is delivered to the turbine.

The V6 dCi Concept introduces a new NOx trap. Alongside the catalytic converter, this device is located on the exhaust line between the turbocharger and the particulate filter. The engine is also fitted with a maintenance-free, periodic regeneration particulate filter, which operates using a seventh fuel injector located upstream of the filter. Regeneration occurs automatically, with no need for intervention from the user.

Ooh, M30d. I hope that'll be priced just a bit above the M35. That would make a nice daily car with good gas mileage.

I agree,

I am drooling over the prospect of the M30d for my ~60 mile daily commute. But I would give that up in a heartbeat for an Infiniti M50 with 400+ hp and DSG from the GTR, gas mileage be damned!

And, I note that Nissan has designed it's V6 diesel correctly with 60-degrees between cylinder banks and DOHC. I still prefer the in-line BMW engine but Nissan's is better than the inherently-out-of-balance 90-degree Mercedes and Audi V6 engines.

In theory, yes. But since there is a premium to build diesels and a premium to build hybrids it isn't as cost effective. I believe Renault or maybe it was Citroen was working on a hybrid diesel.

Mercedes is rumored to be working on a Diesel/Hybrid. As has been stated here before, the cost of a vehicle with essentially both systems will be extremely high. It is questionable if Americans will take to Diesel technology alone much less spend another premium on top of Diesel just to get a few more MPG. As with anything else, the market will dictate if that segment exists and whether or not it can be exploited.

diesel hybrids may not makes sense for moderately priced cars right now....but in a luxury car that's $50k plus i don't think people will mind a few thousand more for great fuel efficieny.

Gotta love a torque curve that shoots almost straight up and peaks at 3400RPM.

They really need to sell the sportiness of the new Diesels to ensure this catches on. Sure fuel economy sells cars (ask Toyota) but it dosen't make for good marketing commercials.

Awesome. Lexus should take this as their cue... they need more than one diesel!

The G30d will be an excellent performer. One thing I'm a bit irked about, though, is that both Lexus and Infiniti use the "d" as a suffix for their diesels, which is what BMW has been using. I thought at least Infiniti would come up with something different...

The Audi Q7 3.0TDI, BMW X5 3.0d and Mercedes-Benz ML320 CDI all have six cylinders... the same amount that's on the Lexus RX400h.

So then why is it not possible for GM to do this for their Cadillacs here? If Nissan/Infiniti can do it, whats the deal with GM?
