Today, October 31st 2007, Toyota Motor Sales celebrates exactly 50 years in the U.S. Since 1957, Toyota has grown from a small importer of vehicles to what will most likely be the largest auto manufacturer in the world. In short, Toyota is a success story. Being that we’re all fans of trucks here, we thought it might be fun to briefly review the history of Toyota trucks in the U.S.

about the ONLY foreign countries where chevy (and other domestic) trucks enjoy much acceptance, are mexico and canada.

if you don't actually travel, just VIEW movie/news/documentary clips of foreign streets. toyota trucks and vans FAR ECLIPSE anything from the states. as do even nissan and mitsubishi trucks.

toyota rules the mid-size truck market, but they are embarrsing themselves in the full-size.

cr pulled ONLY the 4x4 v8 tundra and camry v6 automatic from their 'recommended' list.

all other models still rate ABOVE AVERAGE and FAR ABOVE AVERAGE.

you have it backASSwards.

gm still beats out toyota in u.s. sales. but on the planet as a whole, it is still a toss up. some months gm leads. some months toyota leads. most analysts project toyota will pull ahead and STAY ahead before long.

what popularity gm vehicles enjoy overseas, are from gm SUBSIDIARIES like opel, holden, etc. domestic type gm cars and trucks are TOO GAS GUZZLING and unweildy for most foreign markets.

not everyone enjoys cheap gas like we do. oh wait, if you include our military budget that's needed to protect our cheap sources, it's NOT cheap, even here!

the JPY has a very weak currency, making imported (any imported)cars expensive.

gm has the leading full-size pickups which are amazing. but in the rest of the world, theres not much demand for them. the mid-size pickup is dominated by toyota, because of its reputation of durability and reliability.

don't know to what extent this was true in the rest of the country, but here in alaska, when the 4x4 toy truck first came out, it was AN INSTANT HIT!

their reputation was already made by the Land Cruiser. (also highly popular here.) (and in many 3rd world countries.)

tacoma 4x4s are so popular here, the local dealers DO NOT EVEN STOCK 4x2 models.

friend of mine had to go to the Lower 48 to get a new one.
