Audi R8 wins Fifth Gear Car of the Year award

Audi R8 wins Fifth Gear Car of the Year award
Audi’s new sport car, the R8 amazes again all experts and wins the Fifth Gear Car of the Year award.

“It just has to be the Audi R8. It represents a massive leap forward for Audi - traditionally you didn’t even have to drive something with four rings on the front to know what it was going to be like - safe, sturdy and just a little bit forgettable. But the R8 blew us away. We gave it the stiffest possible test, and put it head to head with the all-conquering Porsche 911, which we expected to win easily. In a straight line drag race, the 911 only just nicked it. In a drifting contest, the R8’s Quattro system didn’t stop it oversteering like a muscle car, and in a bumper to bumper, wheel to wheel battle on the track, it held its own easily. It was an absolute pleasure to discover that the R8 was as thrilling to drive as it was good looking. It’s a very worthy Fifth Gear Car of the Year”.

Not me. The 911 is awesome but the R8... it's just so much sexier. That lone would make me put down the deposit. There is no Porsche on sale that even comes close to the amount of heads you'll turn with this car, its performance and luxury nonwithstanding.

Its a nice car, but im not a huge fan of the styling. If I wanted to get an everyday performance car It would be an Aston Martin.

I would get the Porsche over an Aston. They look beautiful but their performance isn't even close.

S4 I don't really care if the R8 performs a little better. You see i live in this place called the real world, not 10th of a second car battle world. That so many people on this site populate. The Aston is more than fast enough, and has a stunning well proportioned classy design thats not to flashy or to stealth.

I agree, I love Astons and their performance is more than "adequate," but the R8 is more than just a tenth of a second better. It's not only 0.7 sec quicker than the V8 Vantage (on a normal day), but it also has an absolutely stunning design, and it performs better on all fronts--not just in a straight line. It can also take you through winter, and has all the luxuries you would want without sacrificing road feel. THAT is why I want an R8.

all the things you mentioned .07 sec to what ever speed and "road feel" mean nothing to me.If i wanted performance and handling for a 100k I would get an M6. I would buy the Aston just because it looks better than the R8, which is oddly proportioned. You could ask anyone who designs automobiles, they would tell you all the most beautiful designs they created were front engine, proportionally it is FAR more pleasing to the eye.
And winter driving? the main factor with that is ground clearance not so much the number of wheels getting power. ex. a two wheel drive ford explorer could go places in the snow, an Audi sedan could only dream of. considering the r8 is so low it could only drive in an inche or two of snow...but so could the Aston.Any way if you can own one of these cars you should have money to get a second car. And if you don't have the money you shouldn't own one of these cars....and i honestly think the Audi is ugly.So there is no convincing me.

A great addition to the sports car field thanks to Audi's ownership of Lamborghini. The R8 to me is more like a car that is popular "now" or in the moment which is fine for those seeking that. My choice over the R8 would be the iconic Porsche 911.

Something about this car tells me it will be around for a long time. It's the first car that has really posed a threat to the 911.

Love the R8 but the 911 pulls my heart strings.

I would take the R8 even if the 911 was soo much better. Its just, 50 year old designs dont do it for me!
