Toyota Global Executive Describes Tundra's Mounting Issues As Shameful

Speaking with Automotive News at the Tokyo Motor Show, ToMoCo's global manufacturing exec admitted that problems with the automaker's full-size pickup have caused "shame" within the company.

Takeshi Uchiyamada cited the rapid expansion of Toyota's production facilities, increased sales and issues with new products as being the major dilemmas facing the automaker, but that all these problems are being addressed. Recognizing the issue is half the battle, but time will tell whether or not Toyota's break-neck pace will continue to hamper the Japanese firm's growth.

Should have let Japan build it. Since Toyota has been making cars here in the U.S. they have been falling. They are still good, but not the bullet proof never break down car anymore.

um, no.

toyota has been building cars in the US since the 80s. and since most manufacturing is done by machines/robotics, there's no difference where it's done.

toyota has already explained that many of the problems with the tundra and camry are due to DESIGN FLAWS not manufacturing flaws.

nice try to blame it on americans, but no dice.

number 1 in global sales. In US, number 2 brand behind Chevy (some months they have been first), number 2 mfr behind GM. Tundra set to hit 200,000 sales this year. Camry still nember 1 car. Yeah they have fallen far.

Toyota won't let this happen again, they'll sort these problems and get back on track. The fact that these issues with the Tundra have caused so much shame within the company means heads are going to roll and the issues will be addressed. This was just the kick up the a$$ they needed.

They gotta get this crap straightened out quick. Imagine a $60K Plus Landcruiser having the same engine issues. Talk about dragging a good name through the mud. Cut back on product lines and focus on quality, that's how they got to be where they are now.

And that's why Hondas are so good. They have less than half of the cars in Toyota's lineup, which keeps them focused on building brilliantly engineered, bulletproof cars. Honda deserves more than what they have now.

Oh another day to bash Toyoyta. Wouldnt be Autospies without it. Wouldnt it have been so nice if someone from the (former) Big 3 had figured this out 30 years ago. A FEW Tundras have had quality glitches, and Toyota is shamed into making wholesale changes. Did exploding Pintos shame anyone?
